Description :
The Interventional Radiology Technologist performs interventional radiology procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider.
These procedures are performed for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.
High-quality interventional radiology procedures must be performed according to exam protocol and in a timely manner.
Production and quality of imaging procedures must be maintained by following established standards and procedures.
Utilizing effective communication skills is essential when interacting with patients.
The technologist instructs patients and their families regarding the test to be performed, assessing the patient's ability to tolerate the exam.
Preparation of the patient and area for procedures includes positioning patients and adjusting immobilization devices.
Equipment must be positioned correctly, and controls need to be adjusted to set exposure factors.
Safety requirements, infection control, drug and radiation policies, and protocols must be strictly adhered to.
Proper sterile techniques must be used when setting up and performing invasive multimodality procedures.
Maintaining equipment and work areas to meet quality and cleanliness standards is crucial.
Collaboration with engineers and physicists ensures optimal operational capabilities of equipment.
Any issues with equipment must be reported to management or the appropriate department.
The technologist also assists in maintaining inventory of supplies.
