The lateral police sergeant position is a commissioned peace officer assigned to the Investigations and Mitigation Division of the University of Texas Police Department.

Purpose

The sergeant will be responsible for supervising and leading detectives conducting investigations of criminal activity on and around the University of Texas at Austin campus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise investigations of property crimes.
• Supervise investigations of crimes against persons.
• Manage and ensure the proper collection, preservation, and analysis of evidence.
• Review and approve detailed reports and ensure accurate and complete case files are produced and maintained.
• Monitor the interview suspects and witnesses.
• Collaborate with outside agencies and external stakeholders.
• Testify in court proceedings related to investigations in which the sergeant participated.
• Monitor intelligence information and research situations to maintain situational awareness and assess risk.
• May perform traditional law enforcement duties during special events. May include periods of on-call status.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

$90,440 + depending on qualifications

Compliance :
