Position Summary

Under general supervision, provides basic to advanced emergency rescue and paramedical care to the ill and injured. Guides and supports EMT Intermediate and / or EMT Basic techs and / or students in the application of appropriate EMS techniques, as required. Performs direct illness / injury assessment and management, preparation for transport, transfer of information, and patient care. Typically works on an on-call basis as per schedule or as otherwise required.

Conditions of Employment

• May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
• UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
• Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
• Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience in the field of pre-hospital EMS. Certification / Licensure : NM licensure as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) / Paramedic.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of AFD / BCFD / AAS protocols

EVOC or National Safety council Defensive Driving Course

Completed FEMA ICS 100 or 200 on-line training

Experience as an EMT-Paramedic in an emergency medical system with greater than 2,500 calls yearly

Experience supervising lower-level EMTs.

ACLS Certification

PALS Certification

Must be able to obtain a UNM Vehicle Driver's License upon hire.
