Job Summary
This is a full-time, fiscal year permanent position within the Department of Advising and
Counseling. The Academic Advisor will provide academic guidance and advisement to students on policies, procedures, and program requirements to fulfill a certificate or degree program and assists students in selecting educational and career goals.
This position requires a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Additional hours may be required.
Some travel may be required between campus locations.
Job Duties
- Assist students in course selection, registration, drop / add, and withdrawal of courses.
- Advise students of course requirements to fulfill certificate or degree programs.
- Administer, interpret and / or discuss the results of career interest inventories with students.
- Maintain and update records and student files.
- Interpret and explain institutional policies and procedures to students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, human services or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to provide a high standard of customer service when assisting students with
problem resolution and ability to seek input from alternate authority if necessary.
Knowledge of University and degree requirements.
Ability to keep up-to-date changes in policies and procedures to maintain current working
knowledge.
Knowledge of advising practices and principles.
Ability to use good judgment and work effectively under pressure.
Ability to record and maintain files accurately, in paper and software programs.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
Knowledge of time management techniques.
Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with an ever-growing population.
