  • The major duties include but are not limited to :

  • Maintains records through a computerized, integrated, double entry accrual accounting system;
  • Receives purchase orders, contracts, receivables, and similar documents for obligation against appropriated funds. Ensures they are authorized by current regulations, charged to the applicable appropriation, and funds are available to cover the obligation;
  • Assigns appropriate numerical and symbolic codes to obligate and record data from documents into the general ledger accounts, obligation accounts, control points, cost centers, and subaccounts;
  • Prepares and electronically inputs payments of certified documents for beneficiary travel and selected other services such as utilities. Verifies amount shown on claims with original obligation document, noting discrepancies and doing follow-up with the vendor or receiving department to clarify and correct discrepancies;
  • Performs a monthly review of assigned accounting reports;
  • Performs other duties assigned.
  • Work Schedule : Monday through Friday, 8 : 00 am - 4 : 30 pm.

  • Qualifications

    To qualify for this position at the GS-7 level, you must meet the following :

    Experience : You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6) in the federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Accounting Technician independently, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience in carrying out accounting principles and procedures; utilizing an automated accounting system; posting and balancing a variety of accounts payable and receivable data and transactions; auditing and reconciling general and subsidiary accounts; reviewing and preparing reports; making recommendations based on case review; and researching to resolve accounting inconsistencies. NOTE : Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start / end dates AND hours worked per week.
