Job Description:
This position plays a key role in overseeing the full accounts payable cycle, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across financial operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, technical accounting knowledge, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounts payable operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments
- Review and approve invoice coding, expense allocations, and payment authorizations
- Lead, train, and support A/P team members, including performance management and workflow coordination
- Monitor vendor payments and resolve discrepancies by collaborating with internal teams and external partners
- Prepare and analyze reports such as aging summaries, payment trends, and exception tracking
- Perform monthly reconciliations of liability accounts and ensure alignment with financial records
- Support financial reporting by maintaining accurate ledgers and assisting with journal entries
- Manage manual check processing and maintain organized financial documentation
- Partner with leadership to improve procedures, streamline workflows, and enhance system efficiency
- Assist with audits and maintain communication with external stakeholders such as auditors and banking partners
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and confidentiality requirements
- Contribute to budgeting processes and monitor financial activity against approved allocations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (Master’s or CPA preferred)
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3–4 years in a supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and accounts payable processes
- Experience working in a nonprofit or similar environment is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (ERP experience preferred)
- Ability to analyze financial data and generate actionable insights
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
