Job description

Actuarial Executive Development Program (AEDP) Summer Internship

Data is everywhere. Insights and impact are not. Spend your summer learning the skills to grow as a modern actuary and leader.

The Cigna Group's Actuarial Executive Development Program (AEDP) offers a premier 11-week internship that prepares future actuaries to apply data with sound judgment, connect analysis directly to real business decisions, and operate in an evolving environment shaped by advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools. As an intern, you'll solve complex business problems with real constraints and imperfect information, take ownership of a high-impact project from problem definition through recommendation, and gain exposure to people that drive healthcare forward.

Our internship is a key pipeline into full-time roles in the AEDP our primary pathway for developing top actuarial talent. You'll receive support and mentorship from experienced actuaries and leaders while sharpening your technical foundation and building the communication, business insight, and leadership skills needed to influence outcomes.

Key Intern Responsibilities:

Own a high-impact actuarial or analytical project aligned to real business needs.

Analyze data to uncover insights that support pricing, forecasting, reserving, or strategic initiatives.

Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to actuarial and business stakeholders.

Apply classroom knowledge to real-world problems, learning how actuarial work influences business decisions.

Collaborate with peers and mentors across teams and locations.

Develop technical, professional, and leadership skills through training, feedback, and hands-on experience.

What You'll Gain as an AEDP Intern Our interns are not observers, they are contributors. By the end of the summer, you'll have a deeper understanding of the actuarial profession, stronger professional skills, and clarity about how you want to grow your career.

  • Exposure to the actuarial profession in practice, including how analysis connects to financial and business outcomes
  • Mentorship from experienced actuaries and leaders who provide guidance, feedback, and support
  • A collaborative intern cohort experience, including professional development, networking, and community-building activities
  • Opportunity for employment within the full-time Actuarial Executive Development Program, based on performance and business needs

We're seeking curious, driven individuals who are eager to learn, grow, and lead, who are excited to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting to join our AEDP Summer internship experience.

Qualifications:

  • Currently progressing toward a bachelor's degree and has completed at least two years in a preferred major of actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, or data analytics.
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA.
  • Uses data to solve real-world problems, think through trade-offs, and connect analysis to business impact.
  • Understands business and financial fundamentals, connects analysis to business impact, and is eager to learn how actuarial work supports decision-making.
  • Comfortable working with data and modern analytical tools, including strong Excel skills, and exposure to Python, R, SQL, AI-enabled tools, or other emerging technologies to support analysis and drive actionable insights.
  • Communicates clearly, collaborates effectively, and works well across teams by listening actively and contributing thoughtfully.
  • Shows early leadership potential by taking ownership, thinking strategically, embracing innovation, and influencing outcomes in changing or ambiguous environments.
  • Completion of at least one actuarial exam, preferred
