Admissions Director

Compass Intervention Center is searching for a caring and compassionate master’s prepared mental health clinician or Licensed RN for the Admissions Director position. The position of Admissions Director provides effective leadership within the Admissions Department and the ability to organize Admission staff to effectively and timely serve patients, families, referral sources through the referral and admission process. This position has supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training of new employees as well as appraising performance, disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. The Admissions Director is accountable for management of the department, providing training and supervision for Intake staff, crisis intervention, and responding to referrals appropriately. This position interfaces closely with both internal hospital staff, facility physicians, as well as external referrals including hospitals, patients, families, and community referral sources. The working position of Admissions Director is responsible for administrative duties including completing staffing schedules, reports, quality improvement, and assuring compliance with all policy and procedures and applicable mental health laws, codes, rules and regulations. Has a strong understanding of the department computer systems.

Job Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Ensures accurate information of daily census and potential admission information.
  • Monitor and evaluates intake / admission information and evaluates insurance verification information.
  • Acts as an administrative resource to provide in-depth training on how to handle inquiry calls and other concerns around the admission process to milieu transition for each patient.
  • Attends leadership meetings to present critical information around census, waiting lists, and review potential patients and program as it pertains to the admission process.
  • Daily logging of Inquiry Calls, referral requests and admissions into MS4 System.
  • Participates and coordinates external marketing activities as appropriate.
  • Obtains and disseminates additional clinical information related to potential patient to appropriate staff for discussion of concerns and admission approval.
  • Completes admission assessment in a timely manner and makes appropriate referrals for clients that are not clinically appropriate for admission to facility.
  • Actively participates in the daily functions of the Administrative Team.
  • Able to adjust department budget to any needed change.
  • Conducts employee reviews on time. Able to write appropriate and measurable goals.
  • Follows proper procedure for employee termination, both voluntary and involuntary.
  • Demonstrates progressive discipline process, documentation plan for improvement / follow-up.
  • Communicates pertinent information to administrator and managers / directors in timely manner prior to admission.
  • Documents of disposition present on each form.
  • Demonstrates ability to write appropriate memos, business letters, etc. Able to communicate effectively in English through verbal and written means.
  • Respects confidentiality of patient and employee information.
  • Maintains a courteous and professional manner in dealing with patients, family members, visitors, physicians and co-workers.
  • Shows a positive attitude toward work schedule, assignments.
  • Attends mandatory in-service education programs and shows evidence of educational growth.
  • Presents professional appearance in dress and grooming and wears identification badge and follows dress code.
  • Handles emergencies, pressures and stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Able to organize tasks, develops action plans and sets priorities.
  • Conforms to facility policy regarding notification of absence or tardiness,
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and performs within limits of policies and procedures.
  • Participates in special projects, committees, Performance Improvement Teams, etc.,
  • Demonstrates knowledge and location of all admission records, intake folders and release of information forms.
  • Provide departmental trainings as needed
  • Provide supervision and support to Admission Coordinator / Counselor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Provides individualized assessment and case management, supportive counseling, and discharge planning for patients and their families with mental health related problems utilizing problem-solving methods to restore or enhance social functioning.

    Qualifications

    Excellent communication skills, i.e., verbal and written. Ability to prioritize; work well under periods of high stress and pressure. Ability to multi-task and demonstrate critical thinking skills. Demonstrates an understanding of funding entities. Thorough knowledge of psychiatric services provided by the hospital. Ability to work flexible hours. Requires a basic understanding of computers; and accurate data entry skills. Knowledge of insurance contracts and payors. Knowledge of precertification for inpatient hospitalization. Experience gathering and documenting medical and clinical information to assess and staff appropriately with physician. Ability to triage for medical and psychiatric needs. Working knowledge of mental status exam. Excellent customer service skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication with all contacts including coworkers, patients, visitors, families and referral sources. Skill set to prioritize, assign tasks, and hold staff accountable for their completion.

    Education : Master’s Degree in Human Service field (e.g. Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, etc.); or RN preferably BSN.

    Experience : 3 years of experience preferred in psychiatric health care. Supervisor experience preferred.

    Licensure / Certification : Licensed RN or LCSW, LPC, LMFT preferred.
