Job Summary and Qualifications
A Registered Nurse with demonstrated interest, education and expertise in trauma care who works in collaboration with the Trauma Director, the Trauma Medical Director(s), Emergency Services leadership, and hospital administration, is responsible for coordination of pediatric and adult trauma care at Medical City Dallas. Actively participates in the execution of the trauma performance improvement program; reports state required data to State of Texas Trauma Registry; represents facility at regional Trauma Council; serves as a resource to staff for trauma related processes; coordinates community Emergency Medical Services and including performance improvement issues related to pre-hospital care; participates in adult and pediatric trauma management processes as indicated / delegated by Director; participates with disaster planning / program for department, hospital, community and regional advisory council. Aggregates information and data related to the trauma delivery system to insure accurate tracking, trending and reporting structure of trauma related activities for integration within the institutional performance improvement process. Autonomously makes decisions while performing chart review and creates judgment calls on the appropriateness of nurse and provider actions for the trauma patients. The coordinator is then responsible for process improvement and compliance within the departments in which the trauma patients are admitted. Manages the data flow process for concurrent quality issue identification and directs to appropriate personnel and channels. Participates in the development of policies and guidelines for care of the adult and pediatric trauma patient. Acts as a resource during trauma activations, participates in Multidisciplinary rounds as the trauma representative.
What qualifications you will need :
Graduate of a Professional Nursing Program college degree.
If hired after 6 / 1 / 12, BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position. Masters preferred.
Minimum five (2) years experience in the Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit.
Pre-hospital EMS experience preferred.
Previous trauma coordinator experience preferred.
Leadership / Management experience preferred.
RN Licensure with the State of Texas or compact license
Current American Heart Association BLS provider.
ACLS required
PALS required
TNCC and ENPC required within 6 months
Certification in specialty area within 6 months
