THOR Solutions is actively seeking a Shipboard Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (AC&R) Mechanical Technician to support at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) in Norfolk, VA. The Technician will provide full-time onsite contracted support to MARMC.

Typical Responsibilities : The candidate’s responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) performing or supporting the following actions :

  • Provide Full-Time Onsite Support as well as Surge Support as tasked for the following Code 252 cognizant equipment :

Centrifugal Air Conditioning Plants,

  • Reciprocating Air Conditioning Plants,
  • Ships Service Refrigeration System,
  • Chilled Water Pumps,
  • High Pressure Air Compressors (HPAC's),
  • Low Pressure Air Compressors (LPAC's),
  • Medium Pressure Air Compressors (MPAC's),
  • Weapon Systems Air Compressors (WSHPAC's),
  • Emergency Breathing Air Compressors (EBAC's),
  • SCBA Compressors,
  • Deballast air Compressors,
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Air Compressors (SCBA’s)
  • LP / HP Dehydrators
  • Conduct Fleet Technical Assistance on-site or via distance support as required, to include engineering / technical evaluations, equipment functional checks, troubleshooting, test, analysis and equipment repairs as tasked.
  • Conduct Assessments and Grooms determining equipment condition and out of specification settings; observe operation of the equipment by ship's force to witness the full range of performance, when possible; utilize appropriate measuring equipment to obtain data for evaluation; evaluate findings and make adjustments and repairs to the maximum extent possible during the time available.
  • Provide Onboard Maintenance Training (OBMT) to Ship's Force technicians in the operation, repair, and maintenance. Perform / provide support during shipboard auxiliary systems tasking including TSRA, INSURV and Tech Assist events.
  • Location :  Primarily onsite at Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) in Norfolk, VA.

    Security Clearance Requirements :

  • Must already possess an active or interim SECRET security clearance, and maintain it for the duration of employment.
  • Required Education, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities :

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least five (5) years of recent, relevant hands-on mechanical experience within the last seven (7) years in the operation, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and assessing of US Navy Auxiliary equipment including, but not limited to :
  • High Pressure Manifolds, Low Pressure manifolds, Bleed Air Systems, Masker Air Systems, Prairie Air Systems, Dehumidifiers, Sonar Dome Pressurization System, Centrifugal Air Conditioning (A / C) Plants, Reciprocating A / C Plants, Ship’s Service Refrigeration System, Chilled Water Pumps, High Pressure Air Compressors (HPACs), Low Pressure Air Compressors (LPACs), Medium Pressure Air Compressors (MPACs), Weapon Systems Air Compressors (WSHPAC’s), Emergency Breathing Air Compressors (EBACs), High Pressure Breathing Air Compressors (HPBAC), De-ballast Air Compressors (DBACs), Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Air Compressors, LP / HP Dehydrators

  • Possess an EPA 608 Universal Certification to handle / work with refrigerant.
  • Proficient using general and special purpose electronic test equipment to perform organizational level maintenance.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, visit processes and reporting methods for visits.
  • Demonstrate regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability for interpreting wiring diagrams and control schematics.
  • Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics and plans and the ability as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to troubleshoot, analyze and provide distance support for listed equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Travel Requirements :

  • Up to 10% travel anticipated.

  • Primarily desk / computer work in an office environment. May involve : repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront / shipboard environments. May involve : traversing shipboard environments (e.g.,  confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.
