Job Description Summary

The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the “go-to” organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon funding.

Job Description

Our Vector Core is a state-of-the-art facility which provides vector-related materials and services in support of basic and translational research worldwide, producing vectors in support of IND-enabling research, conduct GLP assays, oversee CMO's in vector production and is expanding to conduct state-of-the art process development.

Due to significant growth, the Vector Core is looking for a new, Analytical Associate 3, to support the characterization and / or release of vector products for research, IND-enabling studies and phase I / II human clinical trials.

As an Analytical Associate 3, you will emerge as a subject matter expert in molecular or cell based assays and you will be conducting quality control assays to determine the quality, quantity and potency of viral-based vectors, while following established protocols or standard operating procedures (may be conducted under GLP conditions). You will be documenting your activities on batch record forms or in a database for QA review. You will clean and sterilize lab equipment and performing routine equipment maintenance. You will also be making suggestions to leadership on updates or corrections that need to be made to any protocols or standard operating procedures.

You will work both independently and as part of a team to accomplish project goals within specified timelines. Successful candidates will have a familiarity with aseptic techniques, mammalian cell culture, and molecular or cell-based assays. The assays and techniques that are frequently used in genome titer determination, infectivity, biodistribution, in vivo potency assays, endotoxin, purity assays and rcAAV, Mammalian Cell / Tissue Culture, qPCR, ddPCR, cell based potency assays, RNA expression, viral clearance, titration, ELISA, western blots and gels.

Qualifications :

• BS degree in chemistry, biology, or related disciplines with 3-5 years of experience required
• Must have experience with Aseptic Techniques and mammalian cell culture
• Experience with molecular and cell based assays a must
• Must be meticulous, detail oriented, and analytical
• Must be highly motivated, have excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
