The City of Overland Park has a Volunteer, Farmstead position available in the Parks and Recreation Department.

SUMMARY:

Assists guests in the volunteer areas at the Farmstead as scheduled. Areas include entrance greeter, gardening, pygmy goat petting pen, fishing shack, gemstone mining, wagon ride attendant, birthday parties and roaming attendants. The education department also has opportunities in the bank, barber shop, schoolhouse and as a costumed historical figure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Engages visitors within the Farmstead.
• Provides general information and customer service to the public by answering questions, providing direction, and enforcing Farmstead rules and City of Overland Park Policies.
• Assists in ensuring a safe environment for animals, visitors and the general public. Identifies safety concerns and informs supervisors of those hazards.
• Assists in cleaning of public areas. Includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, removal of trash, raking/removal of animal manure. Maintains a clean and functional work area. Picks up debris and disposes of it properly in all areas of the Farmstead.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with supervisors, customers and any other persons or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.
• The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Basic education equaling 8 grades and a minimum of 14 years of age.

EXPERIENCE:

• None.

SKILLS:

• Manual dexterity.
• Good communication skills.
• Basic reading and math skills.
• Good memory skills.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to receive training and maintain knowledge of Farmstead activities and programs.
• Ability to engage the public in conversation.
• Ability to work under distracting conditions. Ability to perform basic math calculations.
• Ability to carry out assignments through oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to greet and assist the general public.
• Ability to sit or stand and be attentive for extended periods of time.
• Exposure to extreme environmental conditions.
• Ability to sweep, rake, shovel, pick-up and dispose of trash bags, re-stock merchandise and supplies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (Direct & Indirect):

• None.

No City residency requirement.

Must successfully pass a background check.
