Description & Details :

The Animal Science Department is seeking an individual who can play an important role in conducting, analyzing, and reporting data for a great number of Faculty working

at the department on different federally funded grants. Coordination of the lab work for so many different projects enhanced even more

the critical role of the position.

  • Oversee activities of the Physiology Laboratory, in support of the Physiology Group of faculty, who are associated with the Center for Nutrition and Pregnancy and the Department of Animal Sciences.
  • Assist with planning, implementation, and monitoring of ongoing and future experiments, in concert with project personnel, including supervising lab procedures of undergraduate and graduate students as needed.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and reagents, and ensured timely and efficient processing of laboratory samples.
  • Conduct, train, and assist other personnel with sample collection / processing, storage, preparation, and assays for various state-of-the-art methodologies in the Physiology Laboratory including :
  • Histology / immunohistochemistry / in situ hybridization and quantitative image analysis.
  • Cell culture including primary cell culture and development of cell lines
  • Molecular biology (e.g., gene cloning, real-time PCR, RNA isolation, bioinformatics related to gene expression, and single-cell sequencing)
  • Protein chemistry (including metabolomics-related procedures)
  • In vitro embryo fertilization and culture, and related / other methodologies as needed
  • Work directly with large animal research models as needed.
  • Develop, optimize, validate, and standardize new and updated procedures, methodologies, software, and hardware as related to activities in the Physiology Laboratory.
  • Assist with analyses of data, provision of updated laboratory protocols, etc. in the pursuit of extramural funding and publication of data.
  • Maintain compliance with University training, laboratory safety, and waste management policies and procedures.
  • Manage the laboratory budgets in collaboration with the Physiology Group, including, but not limited to, supplies, equipment, and user fees.
  • Stay current in their areas of technical expertise via continuing education activities, including attending training workshops / meetings as needed and depending on availability of funds.
  • Assist in coursework; e.g., in the set-up for and conduct of laboratory courses and exercises.
  • Other responsibilities as needed in support of the continued excellence of the Physiology Group in research, teaching, and service.
  • Occasionally work outside of normal university hours as needed.

Work Schedule :

8am -5pm with 7 : 30am - 4 : 30pm during breaks and Summer.

Advertised Salary :

Commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications :

  • MS in Animal Sciences or related field(s).
  • Lab experience.
  • Experience with the design and execution of experiments in physiology, cell and / or molecular biology or related field(s) using animal models.
  • Current valid driver's license.
