Physical Requirements :
Requires heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects over 50 pounds; animal handling (including carcasses); risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job; exposure to temperature extremes, cuts / punctures, and bloodborne / airborne pathogens. Able to work in hot, wet areas and wear personal protective clothing.
Shift :
Primarily days (i.e. Monday – Friday, 7a-3 : 30p) Please be aware that as an exempt position, job duties may occasionally require additional time in the evenings, nights, holidays and / or weekends to accomplish work goals in excess of 40 hours per week.
This position is required to participate in weekend, after hours, holiday and on-call rotations.
Job Summary :
Supervises daily cage wash and animal husbandry activities ensuring 100% adequate and appropriate coverage for all operations. Assists Facility Operations Manager in interviewing process, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, etc. Reviews and recommends changes to policy and procedures to ensure that DLAR and investigator’s staff adhere to all UK, local, state, and / or federal rules and regulations and that all actions are completed by strictly and consistently following applicable DLAR SOPs including safety procedures and guidelines. Ensures accurate and timely creation and maintenance and storage of all associated documents and records regarding training, environmental parameters, animal health monitoring, equipment maintenance, quality control, etc. Oversees and manages procurement and proper storage of husbandry supplies. Provides, on a rotational basis, holiday, after-hour and weekend coverage for husbandry related issues.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? :
Preferred Education / Experience :
BA / BS in a relevant field (Animal Sciences, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Zoology, etc. or its equivalent); minimum of 6 years animal husbandry (laboratory animal husbandry preferred) or equivalent animal related experience directly related to the care, use, handling and treatment of animals in a paid position (i.e, work in pet stores, veterinary clinics, farm or ranch); AALAS certified LATg Driver’s license preferred.
