Description

The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Agency is currently seeking staff to work at the Santa Ana Zoo. All positions are part-time and incumbents may work up to 19 hours per week. Work hours and schedules vary. Successful candidates must be available to work shifts during various hours of the day, evening, holidays, and weekends.

Bilingual pay is an additional $1.01 / hour, if applicable.
Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To
Under general supervision, cleans animal habitats and holding areas. Prepares animal diets, feeds, waters and medicates animals in accordance to predetermined and approved schedule. Performs light grounds and habitat maintenance work such as hosing, raking, and sweeping in and around habitats and viewing areas. Answers questions from the visiting public and presents regularly schedule education talks. Performs basic janitorial duties. Keeps routine records and prepares simple reports; operates various vehicles and equipment. Performs other related functions as assigned. Participates cooperatively in work team activities and performs other related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Six months of experience working with animals or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge and abilities listed below. Coursework in biology, zoology, animal husbandry or related field may be used in combination with experience that provides the desirable knowledge, skills and abilities.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of : common varieties of exotic, wild and domestic animals, and basic principles and practices of their behavior and care; tools and equipment used in basic maintenance of animal cages and habitat grounds; safe work practices.
Ability to : work as a team; understand and follow oral and written instructions; keep routine records and write simple reports; lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; interact in a tactful and courteous manner with the public; perform routine and light maintenance work requiring physical stamina; perform basic first aid; establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
Special Requirements : Must possess and retain a valid California Class C driver's license as a condition of employment.
Special Working Conditions : Must be willing and able to work irregular hours, including weekends, holidays and evenings, as needed as a condition of employment. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Hmong, Korean, or Samoan is highly desirable.

Part-Time employees accrue paid sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every thirty (30) hours worked up to a maximum accrual of 6 days or 48 hours.
