Role Purpose
Lead the technical implementation of the Hyper-V cluster infrastructure and execute the VM migration from VMware vSphere 6.7. This role requires strong expertise in both VMware and Hyper-V platforms to ensure successful workload migration, as well as familiarity with Veeam backup and Veeam Vault to coordinate data protection throughout the migration process.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and build Hyper-V failover cluster on Windows Server 2022/2025
• Configure Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) and storage connectivity in coordination with Storage Engineer
• Implement System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) for centralized management
• Assess VMware vSphere 6.7 environment and document VM configurations, resource allocations, and dependencies
• Develop and execute VM migration plan from VMware to Hyper-V using appropriate conversion tools
• Coordinate with Storage Engineer to ensure Veeam backup jobs are updated for migrated VMs
• Validate Veeam backup and Veeam Vault protection for VMs before and after migration
• Plan and execute Windows Server in-place upgrades from 2012 R2/2016 to 2022/2025
• Configure Hyper-V networking including virtual switches, VLANs, and network teaming
• Implement Hyper-V Replica or other high availability configurations as required
• Perform pilot migrations and validate application functionality with app owners
• Execute production VM migrations during approved maintenance windows
• Coordinate with Desktop Systems Analyst on application compatibility and testing
• Support decommissioning of legacy VMware infrastructure
• Document as-built configurations and create operational runbooks
Required Skills & Experience
• 5+ years of Windows Server and virtualization administration experience
• Strong expertise with VMware vSphere administration and VM export/conversion
• Strong expertise with Hyper-V clustering and failover configuration
• Proven experience migrating VMs from VMware to Hyper-V environments
• Experience with System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
• Familiarity with Veeam Backup & Replication and backup job management
• Understanding of Veeam Vault or similar archive/long-term retention solutions
• Deep knowledge of Windows Server 2022 and 2025 features
• Experience with Windows Server in-place upgrades across multiple versions
• Strong understanding of Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) and storage configuration
Preferred Qualifications
• VMware VCP or Microsoft Certified: Windows Server certifications
• Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) certification
• Experience in pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environments
• PowerShell scripting expertise for automation
• Experience with GxP system migrations
• Knowledge of VM conversion tools (MVMC, StarWind, Veeam)
