Summary

The position serves as Journeyman Electrician of the Electric Shop for the Engineering Service at the VA Medical Center, Bay Pines, Florida and reports to the Electric Shop Supervisor. The electrical system involves high voltage switchgear, underground high voltage power lines, pad mounted oil cooled transformers up to approximately 2000 KVA with voltages of 12,470 volts to 480 / 277 and 208 / 120 volts, high intensity lighting systems indoor and outside, uninterruptible power systems up to 125 KVA.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03 / 04 / 2025.

EXPERIENCE : A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT : Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Note : A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements : Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platform, hydraulic lifts and other hard to reach places. To complete work, employee will stand, stoop, bend, kneel, twist, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. The employee must lift and carry tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 40 pounds. May also have to lift or move heavy objects over 200 pounds.

Working Conditions : The work is performed inside and outside, including in bad weather. Work may need to be completed in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, greasy and bad smelling. Work may require being at a height of over 50 feet or more and in close quarters such as manholes or attics. They are occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, rotary devices such as electrical motors, sharp edges on metal equipment or parts and pointed objects. They are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave : Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
