DEFINITION

The Public Art Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating various cultural arts programs, events, and initiatives within the City of Brighton. This position plays a critical role in promoting and enhancing the cultural vitality of the community through diverse arts and cultural activities. The Public Art Coordinator will work closely with local artists, organizations, and community stakeholders to develop and implement programs that foster an inclusive and vibrant arts environment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED This position reports to the Communication and Engagement Director. It is responsible for the supervision of volunteers when needed.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with local artists, arts organizations, and community groups to support inclusive and collaborative participation in the city's cultural arts programs and initiatives.

Serve as the lead liaison for the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) grant, overseeing all aspects of grant writing, reporting, compliance, and administration in alignment with SCFD guidelines.

Coordinate the Brighton Creative Community Grants program, managing all aspects of annual grant administration from application through award distribution.

Identify and pursue grant funding and alternative revenue opportunities to expand and sustain arts and culture initiatives.

Plan, organize, and execute a variety of arts and culture events such as Art in the Park, the Eye for Art Program, and the Sculpture on Loan Program, in coordination with internal teams and external partners.

Oversee the end-to-end installation of public art, including issuing calls for art, coordinating the judging and selection process, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful installation. Reviews and evaluates operations, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with City regulations and ordinances.

Maintain comprehensive electronic records for the City's public art collection, including inventory and related documentation, and coordinate maintenance needs and ongoing upkeep schedules

Act as the on-site event supervisor, ensuring seamless operations and overall accountability for all aspects of event execution.

Develop and implement strategic marketing and outreach plans to promote cultural arts programming, collaborating with the communications office to create and distribute engaging promotional content across diverse platforms and official city communication channels.

Manage and regularly update the division's web pages and Facebook presence to ensure accurate, timely, and engaging information is accessible to the public, supporting community outreach and enhancing public awareness of programs and initiatives.

Provide leadership and direction to staff, interns, and volunteers engaged in cultural arts efforts, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive work environment.

Establish and manage divisional goals, objectives, and work plans that align with the city's broader cultural arts vision and strategic priorities.

Administer budgets for cultural arts programs and events, including SCFD-funded initiatives, ensuring fiscal responsibility, proper allocation of resources, and adherence to financial policies.

Forecast, prepare, and justify annual budgetary needs for equipment, supplies, and programmatic support; monitor expenditures and adjust as needed to remain within approved limits.

Evaluate program outcomes and event effectiveness through data collection, reporting, and performance assessments to inform future planning and city-wide reporting.

Represent the City of Brighton at arts and cultural events, fostering community engagement and promoting the city's commitment to the arts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of Principles and practices of cultural arts program planning, development and administration, grant management, financial management.

Knowledge of developing community programs for specific audiences.

Knowledge of art mediums, exhibits, and public art installations.

Knowledge of general accounting and budgeting processes.

Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software suite.

Knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures.

Skill in developing, monitoring and maintaining division budgets.

Skill in planning and coordinating multiple special projects and events.

Ability to provide excellent customer service by demonstrating the ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in written form in a professional manner.

Ability to represent the City on arts and cultural issues at public meetings.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, community organizations, the public and other City employees.

Ability to be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities.

Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public and handle stressful situations.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, ability to issue clear, concise verbal and written instructions to other employees and report operations both verbally and in written form to supervisor and / or City Council.

Ability to demonstrate strong program management skills.

Ability to prepare grant applications or proposals; implement and administer the grant process; seek and prepare grant applications and proposals.

Ability to supervise, direct, and train employees and volunteers.

Ability to work well with others in a team environment.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Arts, Performing Arts, Marketing, or a directly related field.

Four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in a related field

Substitution : At least Four (4) years of related work experience in Arts, Performing Arts, Marketing, or a directly related field.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OF WORK While performing the duties of this position, the employee in this position is required to :

Stand on a regular basis. ?

Frequently walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. ?

Occasionally sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. ?

Frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Have specific vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Works a flexible schedule including evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

Bilingual English / Spanish preferred.

After hire, the employee in this position is required to complete all mandatory training that includes :

FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of hire.

CIRSA safety training within six (6) weeks of hire.
