The San Francisco Standard is currently seeking an experienced Art Director to join our creative team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the visual direction of our rapidly expanding digital media company.Reporting to the Creative Director, the candidate has a background in new media and editorial content design. We are looking for someone who excels in a fast-paced environment, can manage multiple projects simultaneously, and is proficient in producing high-quality designs across various platforms and technologies.We are looking for innovative ideas and forward-thinking individuals who can create designs that authentically capture the essence of San Francisco and its residents.Responsibilities :
Find out if this opportunity is a good fit by reading all of the information that follows below.Collaborate with editors, photo editors, multimedia professionals, and other journalists to create engaging storytelling experiences across multiple platformsDetermine the most effective approach to tell a storyWork closely with product designers and data analysts to enhance user experience and outcomesCollaborate with the Creative Director to establish brand consistency across the newsroomDesign, direct, and coordinate the implementation of stories using our CMSCommission and oversee freelance illustrators and other artistsProduce photo-illustrations as neededWork with the Creative Director to develop branding for new initiatives
Requirements :
2-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in (digital) media or publishingProficiency in design fundamentals such as typography, layout, balance, hierarchy, proportion, rhythm, emphasis, and unityStrong understanding of systems design and branding strategyFlexibility and adaptability in various design scenariosExperience delegating work to freelancers of different levels to ensure timely and high-quality project deliveryExtensive network of artists and illustratorsDemonstrated user experience sensibilities and a strong sense of curiosityStay updated on new tools, technologies, and resources in the design fieldAbility to identify challenges in work and collaborate with others to find solutionsPassion for building relationships and leveraging them to align teams towards a common visionProficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and Figma; animation skills are a bonus
The San Francisco Standard is a hybrid workplace, where employees are expected to be in the office four days a week.To apply, please submit your resume, cover letter, and a portfolio of at least five work samples.
