Description

Solano Community College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for part-time counseling assignments. These positions are filled on an as needed basis and are on-going recruitment. Counseling assignments may include day, evening and weekend hours. Counseling schedule may include remote / online counseling, as well as on-campus and off-campus locations as part of contract assignment.

APPLICATION PROCESS DETAILS :

Oral interviews will be conducted to include a teaching demonstration.

Travel costs related to the interview are the responsibility of the candidate.

  • As the recommended candidate for this position, you will be required to participate in an in-person orientation at our main campus in Fairfield, CA. In addition, the District is unable to employ any person who does not have a California address.
  • Responsibilities

    Provide academic and career counseling services to students within the EOPS / NextUp / Care programs. Conduct scheduled and drop-in individual / group counseling sessions as assigned; maintain informational notes, student education plans, and reports as required by the Dean of Counseling and Dean of Financial Aid; conduct on-campus and off-campus counseling assignments; assist with student outreach / in-reach presentations on a variety of topics; assist with orientation and recruitment programming; maintain current knowledge of academic and career counseling techniques and information; attend required trainings and professional development; make appropriate student referrals to campus and public service agencies as necessary; serve as liaison person with assigned academic divisions, departments, or special areas; utilize variety of computer software systems for career and academic counseling / teaching; and perform special duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent. (NOTE : A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.) CCR 53410.1

    AND EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall : (1) have completed a minimum of nine (9) semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages. OR (2) Have completed six-semester units or the equivalent of a college level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages. AND In addition to the above, an EOPS counselor hired after October 24, 1987, shall have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages. If you do not possess the minimum qualifications exactly as stated above you must request an equivalency review and submit conclusive supporting documents at the time of submitting your application. Equivalency is defined as possessing the general education for the degree and the major coursework for the degree. The equivalency request form shall be included in the application. Equivalency forms can be found at www.solano.edu. All degrees must be from accredited institutions. HIGHLY

  • Knowledge of equity-minded general counseling theories and practices, working with special populations.
  • Experience counseling / teaching related to career planning and college success

    Commitment to professional growth and development and to continued innovation and improvement of counseling / teaching.

    Familiarity and comfort utilizing technology for counseling / teaching

    Experience providing academic, career, and personal counseling at a community college

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to use a variety of counseling techniques and strategies to provide academic and career counseling / presentations / instruction.
  • Knowledge of current academic and career information to assist students in career exploration, major / career decision-making, and academic goal completion.

    Ability to meet administrative deadlines for counseling / teaching responsibilities.

    Ability to learn and use computer software and access websites for academic and career counseling / presentations / instruction.

    Knowledge of multiple teaching methods which include critical thinking and problem solving strategies; and college academic requirements and standards.

    Candidates must possess : a commitment to encouragement of learning and an enthusiastic attitude toward teaching and / or counseling; sensitivity to teach students from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds who may have wide ranges of abilities, including the disabled.

    Adjunct faculty may purchase health and welfare benefits, at their expense, to the extent permitted by the District's health and welfare benefits carrier and / or broker.

    Eligibility :

    Taught at Solano Community College for at least two semesters (excludes summer session); must be scheduled for a minimum of 40% assignment at the time of enrollment in the health plan; enrollment periods to be determined each semester; once enrolled mandatory participation will be required (participation period to be determined); premiums will be made through payroll deduction and additional premiums due on a monthly basis by check to the Business Office no later than the 10th of each month for the succeeding month's benefits; and other procedures for implementation as determined by the District in consultation with the Association.
