Managing Editor
The Omaha World-Herald, Nebraska’s largest newsgathering organization, is seeking a managing editor to help inspire the talented staff and lead what’s next in local journalism. This person will excel at journalism, bring digital savvy to the fore and appreciate the crucial role local reporting plays in our society.
The successful candidate will have direct supervision of a team of reporters and work with opinion content to bring community voices to The World-Herald. They will also understand that while news is unpredictable, strategy and planning for coverage helps elevate our work.
The managing editor, who will report directly to the executive editor, will have experience using journalism to represent the full vibrancy of local communities, including the pockets that are traditionally under covered. They will know that collaboration within the newsroom and outside its walls is key in a dynamic organization.
The ideal candidate will be steeped in journalism, with at least 10 years professional news experience, including time managing teams of journalists. They should be well versed in breaking news – from criminal justice to sports to politics – as well as creative enterprise across all sectors. They should know how to support journalists and help them grow, whether they are veterans or newer to the business.
