Ensure the proper medical care of all minor league players by providing oversight of the MiLB medical system. Assist in medical decisions in collaboration with team physicians and medical doctors.
Ensure consistent execution of organizational medical protocols and philosophies across all affiliates.
Staff Management & Development
Manage and mentor Athletic Trainers (ATCs) at each minor league affiliate, fostering high standards of care and promoting personal development.
Lead the hiring process for assistant ATCs at each affiliate and provide ongoing support and training.
Ensure all medical staff maintain appropriate credentials and fulfill continuing education requirements.
Quality Control & Compliance
Oversee medical care provided to minor league players, ensuring adherence to sports medicine best practices.
Maintain quality control over all medical services delivered to Red Sox players within the player development system.
Reporting & Communication
Provide bi-weekly medical updates for the MiLB system, ensuring accurate and timely dissemination of information.
Regularly communicate with the Director of Player Development regarding player medical concerns and updates.
Innovation & Best Practices
Drive innovation and promote cutting-edge medical practices within the organization, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and evolving treatment strategies.
Medical Coverage & Travel
Travel to each minor league affiliate 2-3 times per season to ensure quality control, provide mentoring, and offer in-person support.
Help facilitate the organization's educational curriculum and provide ATC coverage as needed.
Player Assessments & Draft Involvement
Oversee the Amateur Draft medical review process, including graded risk assessments and delegation of related responsibilities.
Attend the MLB Combine and Amateur Draft meetings, coordinating entrance physicals and participating in player assessments with other departments.
Budget & Logistics
Develop and manage a budget for MiLB team medical supplies during the offseason and track in-season spending.
Organize and plan Spring Training, draft, and exit physicals for minor league players.
Additional Duties
Assist with processing worker's compensation claims as needed.
Provide support for various other medical-related functions across the organization.
COMPETENCIES
Demonstrated ability to build trust and foster positive relationships with players and staff from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, utilizing strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate across various departments, seniority levels, and personalities.
Expertise in diagnosing and treating region-specific impairments with a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology.
Proficient in prescribing targeted exercises for injury prevention, motor control, conditioning, and therapeutic rehabilitation.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) in good standing with the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).
Extensive experience in athletic training, preferably within professional or collegiate sports organizations.
Leadership experience within a medical team and a background in teaching / mentoring.
Strong knowledge of sports medicine best practices, player rehabilitation, and injury prevention strategies.
Comprehensive understanding of and training in Manual Therapy.
Ability to manage budgets and handle logistical planning for medical operations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
Willingness to travel and work flexible hours as required.
Willingness to reside in Fort Myers, FL.
