D'Youville CollegeBuffalo, NYPurpose of Position :
To assist the Head Athletic Trainer in providing sports medicine and athletic training services to the University’s intercollegiate athletic teams and / or club sports (as needed) under the supervision of the Team Physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel. This is a 10-month, full-time position, including university benefits.
Specific Tasks / Duties performed :
- Coordinate with the Head Athletic Trainer to provide athletic training coverage, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
- Provide athletic training services for the University’s athletic department, included but not limited to : prevention, recognition, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
- Provides game and practice coverage including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Collaborate with physicians and other allied health professionals to deliver appropriate care and referrals to student-athletes;
- Assist with the supervision, daily operations and maintenance of the athletic training facilities;
- Assist Head Athletic Trainer with administrative duties as assigned;
- Follow established emergency plans for the University’s athletic facilities including off campus venues.
- Follow and assist with enforcement of all policies / procedures as outlined within the Athletic Training Room policy / procedure manual, including codes of conduct and rules of use for the athletic training facility and equipment.
- Assist in maintaining accurate medical records on all injuries, treatment, rehabilitation and physician referrals
- Serve as a liaison for student-athletes between physicians, coaches, athletes, parents and other health care providers as needed.
- Apply a team approach with the Head Athletic Trainer and Coaches to ensure that student-athletes participate only when physically able and that any physician instructions are understood and followed.
- Comply with all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the University’s regulations.
- Assist with the collection, maintenance and privacy of all (new and returning) student athletes’ current contact, emergency contact, health insurance, consent and health status waivers.
- Provide for the prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective tapings, wraps, braces, and equipment, and assist in the design of practices to help reduce the incidence of injury.
- Advise coaches and / or strength and conditioning staff of flexibility, strengthening and conditioning programs to help prevent injuries and optimize performance.
- Provide immediate care of athletic injuries and refer athlete to emergency medical facilities when necessary.
- Assist in budgeting, ordering and inventory of athletic training supplies.
- Educate, counsel and advise athletes on health-related issues, including nutrition and substance abuse.
- Operates the program under the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, and the ECC; understanding that an employee can be suspended for a period without pay or terminated if found to be involved in significant or repetitive violations of NCAA regulations;
- Perform other duties as requested by the Head Athletic Trainer and / or Athletic Director.
