The Engineering Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for guiding the engineering team in all aspects, including design, drafting, ERP management, R&D, process planning, and technical customer service. This position requires a strong leader who is not only an experienced engineer but also an effective manager with exceptional personnel skills and a collaborative mindset.
As a hands-on manager , you will be actively involved in engineering and production operations alongside your team to meet customer needs efficiently. You will work closely with Process Planners, Drafting, Quality Control, Service Technicians, and Managers to prioritize projects, maintain production quality, and resolve technical customer issues.
Regular one-on-one meetings with Process Planners, Drafting Personnel, and Engineers will be essential to discuss workload, scheduling, technical issues, and priorities. Additionally, you will mentor the team in teamwork and professional communication while working with HR on hiring, performance evaluations, and other personnel matters.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the Process Planners, Quality Control Manager, ensuring that ERL manufacturing and assembly processes are documented, and quality control procedures are followed.
- Lead the process planning team to effectively allocate resources and schedule work to meet ERL’s R&D and process improvement goals.
- Organize and lead weekly meetings with Process Planners and CNC Supervisors to review priorities, address issues, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Review 3D models and blueprints for accuracy to customer standards, appropriate GD&T requirements, and provide final approval for production.
- Work with Quality Control Managers at ERL New Albany and ERL Houston to uphold and exceed component and product quality standards, as well as oversee maintenance of testing machines.
- Attend production meetings to ensure the correct jobs are entered in the ERP system and inventory counts are accurate.
- Oversee the accurate quoting of potential new products, including both internal projects and external component production.
- Lead efforts to improve cost efficiency by optimizing direct labor, tooling, and supply expenses to meet budget and gross profit goals.
- Support purchasing efforts by assisting with material orders for new products when needed.
- Ensure clear and effective communication between engineering, process planners, production, and quality control.
- Facilitate the timely and accurate flow of engineering data to the production and inventory control teams.
- Oversee R&D, prototyping, and vendor selection for new ERL products.
- Collaborate with sales teams to develop technical sales presentations for key products.
