Licensed Wastewater Operators perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of our wastewater treatment plant.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Learn & gain skills involving wastewater treatment, visual inspection & basic maintenance of equipment, and manual & auto control system servicing & repair of process treatment facilities.
- Operates treatment facilities SCADA system to control flow and processing of water, wastewater, sludge, etc.
- Operates manual valves, gates & hand/off/auto controls, and human-machine interface (HMI) controls to start/stop pumps, engines, valves, and generators to control and/or adjust flow throughout treatment process facilities.
- Collects samples, conducts flow meter readings, and field measurements of specific parameters throughout process treatment facilities.
- Performs routine laboratory analyses for process control measures as well as specific permit reporting as trained & assigned.
- Documentation of process control measurements, meter readings, process treatment activities, laboratory analysis results, and preventive maintenance; daily equipment inspections, & repair work, both manually & digitally
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with client employees, vendors, and the public.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and shift work as assigned.
- Perform operations, maintenance, & repair work in & outdoors under a variety of safe weather & working conditions
- Work tasks include climbing stairs and ladders and prolonged walking and standing.
- Safe & proper use & operation of hand tools, power tools, and motorized equipment as trained & assigned.
- Development of a commitment to personal safety and the safety of co-workers is essential.
- Basic understanding and ability to operate a computer.
- Performs custodial and other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high-pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens, and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist, and bend at the waist; turn; kneel; squat; raise arms above shoulder height; grasp; reach; perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment and piping; have vision sufficient to maintain a collection system; and have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift, one must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 25 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold and climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance, carry a 25 pound tool box up a flight of stairs, use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; work in confined spaces and wear and use appropriate safety equipment.

- Florida Wastewater Operators License from Florida Department of Environmental Protection (level C or higher) ability to obtain within 12 months of employment. Operator in training must attain it within 18 months.
- 1 year of experience operating a wastewater treatment facility preferred; non-licensed candidates (operators in Training) will be considered.
- Non-license Candidates must show proof of completion of wastewater certificates or a current enrollment form from an accredited college or vocational school. Florida Department of Environmental Protection requirement for license examination test.
- Valid driver's license with no major infractions.
Preferred:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Adobe
- Ability to work with diverse teams
- Experience in serving wastewater municipal clients
