Job Summary: The Bakery Team member is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all guests. S/he is responsible for the merchandise in the bakery department, which includes: receiving, stocking, preparing, wrapping, weighing, pricing, rotating, and merchandising the department’s products. Bakery products vary by location and can include breads, pastries, gelato, cakes, and other specialty items. As a team member of Pete’s Fresh Market it is important that Pete’s Four Pillars of Value, Aesthetic, Quality, and Customer Service are always exemplified.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Must have a love & passion for food, with an extensive knowledge of the specific bake items at Pete’s.
- Must be able to interpret, understand and follow instructions.
- Expected to extend product knowledge and expertise to the customers.
- Must be able to prepare baked food product to Company standards.
- Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
- Check product quality to ensure freshness. Review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action.
- Properly use kitchen equipment, stove, computerized scale, and other equipment.
- Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
- Finishing products such as filling or icing doughnuts and pastries.
- Packaging, labeling and pricing products for self-service.
- Maintaining and filling bakery trays, display cases and ingredient bins.
- Operating the bread slicer (if 18 years of age or older).
- Unloading, organizing and restocking supplies.
- Assist all customers and provide them with their order in a friendly &timely manner.
- Possess a working knowledge of sanitation requirements & regulations, including temperature logs.
- Perform all clean-up duties that are required in the department in an efficient and timely manner.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Certifications
- High School Diploma or equivalency with 0-3 years of experience in Bakery or similar environment.
- Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
- Current food handlers permit once employed
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service by being friendly, courteous and prompt.
- Must have excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, store leadership, and fellow-team members.
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.
- Must be 18 to use sharp knives or use ladders, scaffolds, or their substitutes above 6 feet in height, and to operate any powered equipment
Work Environment/ Physical Demands
- A Bakery Clerk's duties are performed primarily in the Bakery department. A Bakery Clerk may be exposed to various temperature changes and work environments. Work includes walking, standing, lifting, and carrying products weighing up to 60 pounds, eye-hand coordination and interaction with customers and associates.
- Must have the physical ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time, bend and stoop to grasp objects, frequently push and pull up to 100 lbs., frequently lift loads up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift 75 lbs.

Starting hourly rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and will vary based on things like location, experience, and qualifications. All positions are eligible for Overtime, and some positions will have guaranteed Overtime available.
Hourly rate for Suburban Stores is $15-$18
Hourly rate for City of Chicago Stores is $16.60-$18
