Job description

Utilities Industry Practitioner

A skilled Utilities industry practitioner with deep experience in electric distribution operations and the ability to help clients modernize how they operate and manage the grid. You understand the critical role that Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), Outage Management Systems (OMS), and distribution control room technologies play in improving reliability, resiliency, storm response, and the overall customer experience. You bring a combination of functional expertise, technology knowledge, and strong consulting skills, enabling you to work with utility operations leaders to translate complex business challenges into practical transformation strategies and solutions. You are comfortable leading teams, advising senior stakeholders, and working across business, operations, and technology organizations to deliver complex programs. You are also excited about the future of grid operations, including the growing role of DERs, automation, analytics, and AI in transforming the distribution control room.

The Work:

  • Lead consulting engagements for electric distribution utilities focused on ADMS and OMS modernization, distribution control room transformation, and storm and outage response.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to distribution operations leadership, helping clients define ADMS/OMS strategy, implementation roadmaps, sequencing, and expected business value.
  • Lead or support ADMS and OMS implementations across areas including DSCADA integration, network model management, DMS applications, FLISR/self-healing networks, Volt/VAR Optimization, load flow, outage prediction, restoration management, crew dispatch, ETR, and customer communications.
  • Develop distribution operations roadmaps aligned with grid modernization initiatives, reliability improvement programs, DER integration requirements, and key performance measures such as SAIDI, SAIFI, and CAIDI.
  • Lead cross-functional teams across functional and process design, network model development, integrations, testing, deployment, operator readiness, training, and change adoption.
  • Partner across CIS, GIS, AMI, Mobile Workforce Management, IVR, and other platforms that enable modern distribution and outage operations.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients across business, operations, and technology organizations, from executive leadership through control room and field operations.
  • Support business development activities by shaping ADMS/OMS opportunities, contributing to proposals and client workshops, and collaborating with technology and platform partners on joint pursuits.
  • Bring innovative thinking to clients around the evolution of distribution control rooms, including ADMS-OMS-DERMS integration, grid automation, analytics, and AI-enabled operations.
  • Contribute to practice development and thought leadership while mentoring consultants and analysts and helping build ADMS/OMS capabilities across the team.

Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements

Here's what you need:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience within the Utilities industry delivering ADMS, OMS, DMS, distribution grid operations, or related transformation programs within a utility, consulting organization, technology vendor, or systems integrator.
  • Minimum of 3 years of functional experience with one or more leading ADMS or OMS platforms, such as GE Vernova, Schneider Electric, Oracle, AspenTech, or equivalent solutions.
  • Experience with distribution operations and core ADMS capabilities, including DSCADA, distribution network modeling, switching, FLISR, Volt/VAR Optimization, load flow, or related applications.
  • Experience with OMS processes and capabilities, including outage prediction, restoration management, crew dispatch, estimated time of restoration (ETR), storm response, or customer communications.
  • Working knowledge of integrations between ADMS/OMS and supporting utility platforms such as GIS, CIS, AMI, Mobile Workforce Management, and IVR.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (12 years) work experience (If an, Associate's Degree with 6 years of work experience)

Professional Skill Requirements:

  • Proven ability to lead or contribute to complex, cross-functional utility transformation programs.
  • Strong understanding of electric distribution operations and the business processes supporting modern grid and control room environments.
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a complex problem-solving environment.
  • Ability to translate technical and operational challenges into clear business recommendations and transformation roadmaps.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across utility business, operations, IT, and executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and drive alignment across clients, vendors, and implementation partners.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong interest in emerging grid technologies, automation, DERs, analytics, and AI-enabled utility operations.

Bonus Points If:

  • You have led an ADMS or OMS replacement, upgrade, implementation, or major release deployment.
  • You have experience with GIS platforms such as Esri/ArcFM or Smallworld, including GIS data quality, GIS-to-ADMS data flows, CIM-based integration, or distribution network model development.
  • You have direct storm restoration or major-event experience, including mutual assistance, major event protocols, or EEI reporting.
  • You have previous consulting or client advisory experience.
