Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit :

The UNC School of Medicine has a rich tradition of excellence and care. Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of North Carolinians, and others whom we serve. We accomplish this by providing leadership and excellence in the interrelated areas of patient care, education, and research. We strive to promote faculty, staff, and learner development in a diverse, respectful environment where our colleagues demonstrate professionalism, enhance learning, and create personal and professional sustainability. We optimize our partnership with the UNC Health System through close collaboration and commitment to service.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to be the nation’s leading public school of medicine. We are ranked 2nd in primary care education among all US schools of medicine and 5th among public peers in NIH research funding. Our Allied Health Department is home to five top-ranked divisions, and we are home to 18 top-ranked clinical and basic science departments in NIH research funding.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians and others whom we serve. We accomplish this by providing leadership and excellence in the interrelated areas of patient care, education, and research.

Patient Care : We will promote health and provide superb clinical care while maintaining our strong tradition of reaching underserved populations and reducing health disparities across North Carolina and beyond.

Education : We will prepare tomorrow’s health care professionals and biomedical researchers by facilitating learning within innovative curricula and team-oriented interprofessional education. We will cultivate outstanding teaching and research faculty, and we will recruit outstanding students and trainees from highly diverse backgrounds to create a socially responsible, highly skilled workforce.

Research : We will develop and support a rich array of outstanding health sciences research programs, centers, and resources. We will provide infrastructure and opportunities for collaboration among disciplines throughout and beyond our University to support outstanding research. We will foster programs in the areas of basic, translational, mechanistic, and population research.

Position Summary :

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina and North Carolina Children’s Hospital has an open rank, full time faculty position for a Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician (DBP) to work in our growing Development, Behavior and Learning Program. This program provides outpatient services through interprofessional care delivered by DBP, psychology, social work, and nursing. Services include assessment and ongoing care for children with or at risk for developmental disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, genetic conditions, and other related disorders.

The DBP program provides an integral role in the training and education of pediatric residents and other learners. This faculty position will include participation in resident didactics, shadowing and supervision, and ultimately assistance in our future goal of developing a DBP fellowship. Given that UNC has a rich tradition of care for children with developmental disabilities, this role will also include close collaboration with UNC’s Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities, the highest funded autism research center in the country and a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) site and UNC’s TEACCH program.

This position will be located in the Division of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics, a newly formed Division within the Department of Pediatrics at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. The creation of this newly formed Division is one of many examples of the Department’s commitment to the care of children with developmental disabilities. In addition to DBP, other key members of the Division include psychology, social work and nursing. Applicants should be board certified or eligible in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Applicants from groups under-represented in medicine are especially encouraged to apply.

The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina is an attractive place to live and work with great climate, schools, and both mountains and beach within a day drive.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :

Applicants should be board certified or eligible in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Candidates must have completed pediatric residency and have either completed or in the process of successfully completing fellowship training in DBP.

Excellent communication skills with patients, families, colleagues, and staff are required. Necessary clinical skills include evidenced-based assessment of children with and at risk for developmental disabilities and ongoing care, including medication management.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience :

Eligible candidates should be interested and knowledgeable in systems-based practice and interprofessional care.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities :

Not Applicable.
