BUILD, Inc. (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is presently seeking a committed, self-motivated, and innovative individual to join our team. BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago’s West Side. Since 1969, BUILD has worked to save lives and mentor young people who live in the city’s most challenged neighborhoods. The (BT) will have a dual role as a Community Therapist as well as act as provide immediate support to youth and their families after a shooting or other act of violence, including emotional support, initial assessments and referrals for support. Services take place within targeted communities and area hospitals as needed. The (BT) is responsible for effectively addressing the mental health / substance abuse needs of high-risk youth through : A) Clinical Assessment for youth referred to BUILD programs as well as in-field support and consultation. B) Provide a client centered and strength-based approach to the treatment of youth and families. C) Establishing mental health / substance abuse referral partners and identifying opportunities for more formal collaboration. D) Facilitate 1 : 1, family and / or group counseling for client’s who require mental health support. E) This position requires clinician to be fluent in English and Spanish. The (BT) reports directly to the Manager of Community Mental Health Services.
Responsibilities are but not limited to :
- Exemplifies the mission, vision and values of the agency
- Receives case assignments, establishes treatment plans, reviews case progress and determines case closure through the supervisor of the assigned program
- Provides mental health services to participants through a holistic and trauma informed lens
- Makes referrals in accordance with service plans to other organization units and external providers
- Provide case management and connection to internal and external services
- Assists members of the Intervention Team during crisis situations involving youth
- Provide oral Spanish language translation during client’s intake and psychological assessments
