Position summary

The Senior Director, Biology (SrDir) is a dynamic and hands-on leader of the proteomic efforts that support the target identification and validation for the development of radiopharmaceuticals for solid tumors with high unmet need. The SrDir is the leader and technical expert in quantitative proteomics using mass spectrometry and has working knowledge of other orthogonal techniques for target validation (e.g. transcriptomics, Western blotting, etc.). The SrDir drives the strategy, oversees all activities within the proteomics group, and leads a team of highly skilled scientists with diverse skill sets. The SrDir is a key member of the team presenting results and participating in cross-functional groups to develop innovative solutions that drive multiple discovery programs forward in parallel.

Essential job functions and duties

  • Provide strategic direction and technical leadership in mass spectrometry-based proteomics and other non-antibody-based methods of target validation.
  • Oversee design and execution of proteomics experimentation to analyze protein expression, protein modification, and interactions using techniques such as liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS / MS), shotgun proteomics, and targeted proteomics.
  • Oversee development and optimization of experimental protocols for membrane protein extraction, purification, and quantification from a variety of biological samples (e.g. fresh frozen and FFPE tissues, cells, serum).
  • Perform in-depth analysis and critical oversight of complex proteomics data, including protein identification, quantification, and post-translational modifications, using bioinformatics tools and software (e.g. DIA-NN, Spectronaut, MaxQuant, MS Fragger, Skyline, R, Python, Perseus, etc.).
  • Oversee maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, mass spectrometry and nano-HPLC systems.
  • Prepare and present data reports and presentations to cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Recruit, coach, and retain scientists with a broad range of skills, fostering professional growth and creating a collaborative and dynamic work environment.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required by business needs.

Minimum required qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Proteomics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field, or a Master’s degree with relevant and equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 12 years of related experience with Ph.D. and 16 years with Master’s degree.
  • Extensive and deep expertise with mass spectrometry-based proteomics instrumentation, in particular Bruker timsTOF and timsTOF Ultra systems.
  • Experience on data-independent acquisition (DIA) and data-dependent acquisition (DDA) with emphasis on previous and demonstrated significant experience with DIA data.
  • Experience with proximity-labeling mass spectrometry (BioID, TurboID), affinity purification mass spectrometry (AP-MS) and cross-linking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) are a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the analysis of large proteomics datasets, bioinformatics software, and statistical and visualization tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of software for data processing and database crunching (e.g., DIA_NN or Spectronaut, MaxQuant or MSFragger, Skyline) and rigorous data organizational skills to manage large data sets across multiple projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of software for data analysis, statistical analysis and visualization (R, Python, Perseus) used together with deep understanding of target biology to generate actionable proteomic data.
  • Strong knowledge of membrane protein biology, including protein modifications (e.g. glycosylation, phosphorylation, ubiquitination), protein-protein interactions, and protein structure-function relationships.
  • Experience with laboratory techniques such as membrane protein purification, immunoprecipitation, and Western blotting.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Non-standard work schedule, travel or environmental requirements
