About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chief Academic Officer (CAO) / Designated Institutional Official (DIO) to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the central oversight, management, and monitoring of all clinical graduate medical education (GME) programs across multiple acute care hospitals. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all residency and fellowship programs maintain compliance with ACGME and Medical Board of California requirements. The CAO / DIO will also be tasked with developing educational programs at the institutional level, serving as a liaison with medical school affiliates, and managing relationships with regional and state education societies. A 100% commitment to the role is essential, including close collaboration with the VP on GME program development, faculty and administrative staffing decisions, and major operational and funding decisions.
Applicants must have a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree, with an advanced degree in education or healthcare preferred. A minimum of 5-7 years' experience in a leadership role in graduate medical education, with a proven track record in ACGME-accredited training programs, is required. The role demands a candidate with a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and a well-developed skill set in leadership, management, and cultural sensitivity. The CAO / DIO will be expected to demonstrate clinical competence as a practicing physician and to have a deep understanding of medical education functions, processes, and resources. Knowledge of and compliance with the standards and requirements of various accrediting bodies, as well as federal and state laws, is also essential.
