Role Overview
The Lead Flight Test Instrumentation Systems Designer at Anduril will lead a team of instrumentation engineers focused on developing and implementing a robust instrumentation, telemetry, and data management system for the flight testing of Group 5 Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). This role will require close collaboration with specialist teams, including Guidance, Navigation, and Control, Flight Sciences, Mission Systems, and Aircraft Maintenance, to address complex challenges in the defense sector.
As the Lead Flight Test Instrumentation Systems Designer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of defense and intelligence through innovation in autonomous systems. Your leadership will drive the integration of cutting-edge technology, ensuring our UAS platforms meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Requirements Decomposition : Utilize a wide array of digital tools to define and install flight test instrumentation, effectively communicating analytical insights to stakeholders.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with UAS discipline engineers, customers, airworthiness experts, and program managers to inform safety decisions and enhance the speed-to-ramp for test operations.
- Technical Leadership : Spearhead investigations to diagnose instrumentation and RF telemetry issues, guiding data interpretation and formulating solutions to improve system reliability and efficiency.
- Product Development : Design and implement analytics-driven customer-facing products that showcase system performance metrics and enhance user understanding of Group 5 UAS platforms.
- Instrumentation Fabrication : Oversee the design, fabrication, and installation of flight test instrumentation sensors and data paths into experimental aircraft, collaborating with integrated product teams to support program objectives.
- Calibration and Approvals : Perform test instrument calibrations and pre-flight checks, serving as an approving signatory for GO / NO-GO flight test decisions.
- Telemetry System Management : Operate and maintain a telemetry auto-tracking ground system using COTS software and hardware.
- Field Operations : Travel to establish FTI and RF telemetry solutions in various locations on an as needed basis.

US Salary Range$166,000—$220,000 USD
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and / or training, critical skills, and / or business considerations.
