Job description

STV is seeking a Senior Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) CAD Technician to join our Transportation & Infrastructure team in Texas. This role may be based in any STV office in Texas, with Midlothian, TX serving as the primary location. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated CAD professional with 2–5 years of experience to take the next step in their career, contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects, and continue building technical expertise in SUE, utility mapping, and survey support.

Why STV?

At STV, you’ll have the opportunity to work on infrastructure projects that shape communities across Texas and beyond. We offer the resources and stability of a nationally recognized firm, combined with collaboration, mentorship, and hands-on project exposure that help professionals grow. In this role, you will be part of a team that values technical excellence, practical problem-solving, and career development, giving you the chance to expand your SUE and CAD expertise while contributing to projects that make a lasting impact.

What You’ll Do:

  • Prepare high-quality CAD drawings and deliverables using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation for SUE, utility mapping, survey, and transportation-related projects.
  • Develop utility and topographic mapping based on field data, records research, survey information, and project requirements.
  • Support office survey activities and drafting efforts in accordance with applicable standards, client expectations, and STV quality procedures.
  • Perform utility records research, office computations, and QA/QC reviews to support accurate and complete project deliverables.
  • Prepare finished deliverables for SUE Quality Levels A, B, C, and D, including utility mapping, topographic mapping, exhibits, and related survey or SUE documentation.
  • Coordinate with project managers, field crews, engineers, and technical staff to communicate progress, resolve questions, and support successful project delivery.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 2–5 years of CAD experience, preferably supporting SUE, utilities, survey, civil engineering, transportation, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; MicroStation and OpenRoads experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of utility infrastructure, utility records, plan interpretation, and mapping workflows.
  • Proficiency with Google Earth and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to review data carefully, identify inconsistencies, and support QA/QC of drawings and deliverables.
  • Field experience or the ability to visit project sites as needed to support coordination, data review, and project understanding.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a background check for employment.
  • Interest in continuing to grow technical knowledge in SUE through hands-on project work, mentorship, and exposure to complex infrastructure assignments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with field teams, technical staff, and project leadership.
