CobbFendley is seeking an experienced CAD Technician in our Pearland office.

Requirements

The successful candidate's most important qualifications include the following.

  • Associate degree or certification required; bachelor's degree preferred; experience in lieu of degree accepted.
  • Understanding of general engineering concepts and construction drawings.
  • Familiarity of acceptable drafting skills and computer aided drafting (CAD) techniques.
  • Baseline knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and PC applications.
  • Desire to learn engineering plans, including but not limited to water, wastewater, roadway, and drainage designs.
  • Desire to learn water and wastewater facility designs.
  • Motivation to work in a dynamic environment with strict deadlines.

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support Project Managers and Engineers with engineering design tasks for various projects related to water, sewer, drainage, and roadway.
  • Work with personnel in the design and preparation of detailed computer aided drawings (CAD) from survey data files.
  • Work with rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other data received for the development of final construction drawings.
  • Accurately plot plan views and profile drawings to include cross-sections, spot elevations, buildings, walls, fences, roadways, rights-of-way, underground utilities, tunnels, overhead power lines, and other structures noted in the survey record drawings.
  • Learn drafting and design criteria required by agencies, municipalities, and clients as directed.
  • Coordinate with utility companies to obtain design files and approvals as required.
  • Calculate or determine project utility dimensions, profile grades, route elevations, underground utility line elevations, underground utility line sizes, and quantity of materials needed.
  • Provide additional project support by drafting documents and computations as needed.
  • Complete edits and modify plans as reviewed by agencies, municipalities, and clients as directed.
  • Prioritize and effectively plan and file records and key documents for easy access of others.
  • Coordinate with clients and CobbFendley employees to meet completion dates and budgets.
  • Perform independent research and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Work in a collaborative team environment and deliver accurate work product that is error free.

    Most work is performed in a professional office environment. Some trips to client offices and outdoor environments for observations will be required.

  • Seated and Standing Position. Extended periods of sitting and standing in an upright position at a workstation.

  • Arm Movement. Extending hands and arms in various directions, such as overhead, below the waist, forward, or laterally.
  • Object Handling. Raising or lowering objects from one level to another and transporting objects by holding them in the hands, arms, or over the shoulder.

  • Office Conditions. Includes extensive use of electronic devices such as computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and telephones. Additionally, tasks may involve the use of cutting tools and equipment like rotary paper cutters and plotting devices.
  • Outdoor Conditions. Includes walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat and freezing temperatures). Potential exposure to high noise levels and various allergens, including poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, and cedar. Potential exposure to wildlife hazards such as animals, insects, and plants.
  • Safety and Equipment Use. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, along with use of hand and power tools.
  • Driving and Vehicle Use. May involve driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers, potentially operating watercraft, and for extended periods of time.
  • EXPECTED WORK HOURS

  • This is a full-time position, generally 40 hours per week, however, hours may fluctuate depending on department needs including the use of overtime.
  • CobbFendley's standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7 : 30 AM to 4 : 30 PM CST. Generally, employees receive a 1-hour unpaid lunch break free of duty. Please note, operating hours and lunch hours may differ based on project workload, primarily for field staff.
  • WORK LOCATION FLEXIBILTY

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule once the training period is complete as established by the department.
