Duties / Responsibilities :
Provide comprehensive financial counseling to patients. Ensures that patients understand their financial responsibilities and assists them in navigating insurance benefits, payment plans, and financial assistance programs.
Required Skills / Abilities :
1. Educate patients on their insurance coverage, out-of-pocket costs, and available payment options.
2. Assist patients in understanding and interpreting their medical bills.
3. Provide clear explanations of financial policies and procedures.
4. Develop and discuss payment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
5. Monitor and follow up on payment arrangements and outstanding balances.
6. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the improvement of financial counseling processes.
7. Maintain accurate records of patient interactions, insurance verifications, and financial agreements.
8. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding patient financial counseling.
9. Stay updated on changes in insurance policies, healthcare laws, and financial assistance programs.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned and serves in whatever other capacity deemed necessary for successful completion of the mission and goals of BROC.
Education and Experience :
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Good communication and customer service skills.
3. Ability to learn computerized medical billing and collections.
4. Prior experience in a collections Representative position preferred.
5. Knowledge of and experience with CPT and ICD-9 coding.
