Job description

Description

  • Advance automation as relates to gathering and applying data to catastrophe modeling software to further develop efficient analysis and reporting.
  • Lead the efforts in providing and communicating catastrophe loss and exposure estimates in a timely manner with limited supervision.
  • Perform portfolio risk roll-up over a wide variety of products, apply applicable outwards reinsurance terms, analyze, and validate results in a timely manner.
  • Relate mathematical catastrophe models to the real world and provide guidance to management that translates results to actionable items.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, Product Line Leadership (PLL) and management to support and sustain profitable organizational growth by providing effective catastrophe analysis that identifies profitable areas to target and highlights unprofitable areas as well as monitoring key catastrophe satistics and advising management of possible issues.
  • Utilize available data to help effectively apportion catastrophe capacity and access existing products to determine if they add profitable growth to the organization.
  • Evaluate new business opportunities and potential acquisitions providing input to senior management.
  • Proactively share knowledge in related areas, creating learning experiences and fostering collaboration within the organization, including mentoring and training less experienced analysts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science in a related quantitative field required.
  • Thorough experience utilizing MS Excel to analyze data and present information in a user-friendly format.
  • Ability to apply and interpret advanced mathematical, economical, and statistical concepts
  • Creative problem solver who is detail-oriented and possesses exceptional organization and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with other departments and function in an unstructured environment.
  • Open and enthusiastic to learning new software and exploring new and different ways of analyzing catastrophe risk
  • Markel offers hybrid (3 days in the office and 2 days remote ) and fully remote option for this opening. Your location distance will determine the working schedule.
  • Specialized Skill Set

  • 3+ years of work experience as a catastrophe modeler / analyst or in a related position within the insurance / reinsurance field with knowledge of commercial catastrophe models (RMS / AIR).
  • Experience working with Verisk AIR platform is preferred.
  • Data management tools experience is a plus.
  • Strong experience with SQL Query is a plus, as is intermediate / advanced knowledge of VBA, Python, Power BI and GIS systems

  • Pay information :

    The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national pay range for this opening is $75,000-107,500 with 15% bonus potential.
