Job Description
Job Description
The Physical Therapist Assistant will help Physical Therapists provide physical therapy treatments and procedures. Individuals in this role may, in accordance with state laws, assist in the development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions, document the progress of treatment, and modify specific treatments in accordance with patient status and within the scope of treatment plans established by a Physical Therapist.

Responsibilities :
- Implements and executes an established patient treatment plan under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. Reports any changes in patient status or needs to supervising Physical therapist in a timely manner.
- Instructs, motivates, safeguards, and assists patients as they practice exercises or functional activities. Observes patients during treatments to compile and evaluate data on their responses and progress and provides results to the Physical Therapist through direct communication and progress notes.
- Measures patient’s range-of-joint motion, body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of treatments or for patient evaluations.
- Communicates with patient, families, referring physicians and other members of the team in an effective and timely manner. Provides information and education to patients and care givers regarding the goals and processes of the therapy provided and devices used.
- Provides timely written documentation as required by insurance provider to meet regulatory, reimbursement requirements and physician treatment plan.
- Prepares and submits patient charges accurately to provide appropriate billing information in a timely and consistent manner.
- Places a high priority on and maintains strict confidentiality in all situations.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains applicable professional affiliations and certifications as required.
- Attends and participates in required organizational meetings and committees as requested.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Experience, and Certification / License Requirements :
Graduation from a Physical Therapist Assistant education program accredited by Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) is required. Must be credentialed the Indiana Physical Therapy Committee and licensed by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. Two to four years’ of prior experience in a Physical Therapist Assistant role is preferred. Must maintain current BLS certification.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements :
Working environment is in a clinical environment. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Work requires standing for long periods of time and excessive walking. Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting / assisting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires regular to frequent levels of bending / stooping, crawling, climbing, kneeling, pushing / pulling, and squatting. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing must be in normal range for telephone contacts and to interact directly with patients. Regularly interacts with staff, physicians, business associates, and the public, which may involve dealing with angry or upset people. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
