Chief Lending Officer

Job Overview : Our client located in Iowa, is looking to add a Chief Lending Officer to their team. The Chief Lending Officer (CLO) provides strategic leadership and oversight of the lending operations, encompassing Business Loans, Mortgage, and Consumer Loans. As a vital member of the executive team, the CLO collaborates with leadership to shape and execute the strategic vision, ensuring lending activities align with organizational objectives and community values. This role is pivotal in maintaining a balanced and diverse loan portfolio that promotes affordable housing, business growth, and consumer financial empowerment while effectively managing risk. The CLO drives innovation, ensures regulatory compliance, and delivers lending solutions that serve the needs of members and the communities we support.

What you will be doing as a Chief Lending Officer …

• Develop lending strategies aligned with the organization’s mission and vision, emphasizing affordable housing, small business support, and sustainable community growth.
• Serve as a key member of the Executive Management Team, guiding long-term strategy and contributing to decisions that advance organizational goals.
• Actively participate in executive meetings, providing insights into lending operations, opportunities, and risks.
• Build and develop high-performing teams through coaching, mentorship, and leadership.
• Promote collaboration and solidarity across teams to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
• Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate policy updates, performance goals, and development opportunities.
• Formulate and oversee strategies to manage loan portfolio risk, ensuring a balanced approach to growth and risk mitigation.
• Drive quality in underwriting through robust credit policies and processes.
• Collaborate with the CFO on rate and fee recommendations through the ALC O committee to ensure competitive and member-friendly offerings.
• Ensure lending activities comply with all state and federal regulations.
• Interface with examiners and ensure the credit union meets safety and soundness standards.
• Maintain comprehensive board and management policies related to lending.
• Champion technology adoption to enhance lending efficiency, improve member experiences, and increase loan origination capabilities.
• Leverage data analytics to understand member needs and inform product development.
• Drive product innovation with a focus on community impact and member success.
• Develop lending products and services reflecting the credit union’s commitment to community development and member financial health.
• Engage with the community to identify evolving needs and build partnerships for growth.
• Lead initiatives that positively impact communities, embodying the credit union’s values of integrity, inclusivity, and social responsibility.
• Build and maintain relationships across departments to ensure a cohesive member experience and streamlined processes.
• Work closely with marketing, member services, and compliance teams to align lending services with the credit union’s brand and values.
• Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and consumer behaviors to provide actionable insights and inform lending strategies.
• Attend industry conferences and stay up-to-date on best practices to position the credit union as a forward-thinking institution.
• Serve as the primary liaison for lending-related CUSOs, including chairing the credit union’s mortgage CUSO board.
