Job description

For over 100 years, Girl Scouts has empowered girls to lead, break barriers, and create positive change. At Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA), we foster a powerful all-girl space that values collaboration over competition, inspiring girls to turn their dreams into reality.

GSEMA is currently seeking a full-time Chief of Staff (COS) to assist the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in leadership and oversight for GSEMA’s day-to-day functions and teams. With the geniuses of enablement and tenacity, a measure of humility, and an ability to galvanize others to stay on task, the COS will be part advisor, part problem solver, a strong facilitator and all-round strategic partner to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

Together, they will develop and operationalize a strategy that will meet GSEMA’s organizational goals and advance our mission. Both internally and externally, the Chief of Staff will be an excellent relationship builder and hold the trust and confidence of senior leaders, Board members, donors, community partners and all staff. Overall responsibilities will range between scheduling, board management, strategic planning, facilitation, project management and establishing connections with integral partners in the greater Boston and Massachusetts community.

The ideal candidate will handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands. They will have the demonstrated ability to deal with highly confidential information and act as a liaison between the CEO and other constituencies, both internal and external.

This is a hybrid position with an office base in GSEMA’s Waltham office. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as necessary.

Explore some of the Key Responsibilities :

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, providing strategic insights and support for outreach, donor relations, and public engagement.
  • Act as a representative for the CEO, including attending events, public speaking, and managing key relationships.
  • Partner with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on the development and execution of GSEMA’s strategic plan and key initiatives.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination across departments to ensure alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Manage CEO scheduling, meeting preparation, and logistics for SLT and Board meetings.
  • Support Board of Directors, including meeting preparation, governance, and strategic updates.

Essential Skills and Experience :

  • Proven experience in strategic planning, relationship building, and managing organizational effectiveness.
  • Familiarity with the Boston and Massachusetts nonprofit sectors and ability to build partnerships.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with a "get it done" mentality.
  • Ability to handle complex situations, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in project management, financial oversight, and data analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, virtual platforms; BoardEffect experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field; Master's preferred.
  • Travel Requirements : Must have access to reliable transportation to travel to GSEMA offices / service centers and across the Council's service area as needed. Occasional travel outside of the council service area may be required.
