As a Chief of Staff you will oversee the complex administrative responsibilities of the office serve as an expert consultant on broad projects and programs and provide advice and guidance to senior management on sensitive issues.
Duties
- Organizational Location : This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services within the Office of Civil Rights and Equal Employment Opportunity and are assigned based on the need of the agency.
- Directs the strategic and administrative responsibilities of the offices administrative programs including finance human capital communications training logistics and emergency management.
- Serves as an expert advisor on administrative programs of significant impact to the office. Maintains sufficient knowledge of related laws regulations and policies to apply new theories and developments to situations.
- Evaluates and recommends long-range plans and objectives for supporting the offices operations which can serve as the basis for substantial changes in the office.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with stakeholders on administrative programs.
- Leads special studies and initiatives that impact office personnel and programs.

Residency Requirement : There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.
Supervisory / Managerial Probationary Period : You may be required to serve a twelve-month probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.
Qualifications
The qualifications for this position must be met by 11 : 59 PM (Eastern Time) on 02 / 06 / 2026.
Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11 : 59 PM (Eastern Time) on 02 / 06 / 2026.
