The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for providing leadership, direction and evaluation relative to the provision of patient care services in all Nursing areas, to include, the Educational Institute, Employee Health, Case Management and Medical Social Services Departments. This role exists to ensure the delivery of consistent quality patient care, and is responsible for establishing generic standards of nursing practice for the hospital and for establishing a mechanism to ensure that nursing care is provided in accordance with those standards (quality, licensing, and accreditation standards). The CNO is instrumental in maintaining clinical excellence, assuring customer satisfaction to patients, physicians and employees, improving operations in a cost-effective manner and developing new community outreach initiatives. The CNO reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is a member of SRMC’s executive team. The CNO is involved with leaders from the governing body, management, medical staff and clinical areas in the hospital’s decision-making structure and process. The CNO participates with these leaders in the development and ongoing review of the hospital’s mission, strategic plans, budgets, resources allocation, operational plans and policies. As a leader and relationship builder, the CNO works to enhance relationships which are built on a high degree of trust, effective communication, teamwork and mutual respect.
