Job description

Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager to lead and oversee complex construction projects from planning through completion. This role requires a hands-on leader who can coordinate teams, manage budgets and schedules, ensure compliance, and maintain clear communication across all project stakeholders. The ideal candidate is strategic, detail-oriented, and passionate about driving results through collaboration and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise and mentor project personnel, including engineers and field staff, by setting performance goals and providing consistent feedback.
  • Establish clear expectations, delegate responsibilities effectively, and ensure team alignment with company objectives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across project teams.

Pre-Construction

  • Participate in turnover meetings between estimating and operations to ensure complete understanding of project scope and objectives.
  • Review project documents, bid estimates, contracts, design plans, and schedules to identify potential risks or opportunities.
  • Develop preliminary budgets and schedules in collaboration with superintendents and foremen, and secure executive approval.
  • Lead interdepartmental kickoff meetings to coordinate resources across accounting, purchasing, safety, logistics, and other departments.
  • Negotiate material, subcontract, and vendor agreements in coordination with procurement staff.

Construction Phase

  • Oversee daily project execution, ensuring field operations adhere to design requirements, safety protocols, and budget goals.
  • Collaborate with clients and project teams to maintain optimal field conditions and timely issue resolution.
  • Support field leadership with safe work planning, job hazard analyses, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct site inspections, safety audits, and incident reviews to reinforce safe and productive operations.
  • Identify and manage project changes or impacts; ensure appropriate notifications and equitable cost or schedule adjustments.
  • Review and approve invoices, track project expenses, and maintain accurate cost projections.
  • Monitor project progress through weekly production reviews, analyze trends, and implement recovery or improvement plans.
  • Prepare and negotiate change orders, manage documentation, and update cost forecasts regularly.

Post-Construction

  • Lead project closeout, including punch list completion, documentation, and coordination with accounting and compliance teams.
  • Negotiate final change orders and confirm the release of retention and warranties.
  • Conduct project debriefs to capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum of five years of experience managing commercial, heavy civil, or underground utility projects.
  • Strong understanding of contract administration, public works compliance, and AIA construction documentation.
  • Skilled in cost forecasting, scheduling, and resource management.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and construction software, including SAGE 300, Bluebeam, B2W, and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Demonstrated leadership, discretion, and independent judgment in managing multiple priorities.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office and field settings.
  • Ability to perform light physical activity such as walking, climbing, standing, and stooping on active job sites.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs. and work outdoors in variable conditions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary range, depending on experience.
  • Health, dental, and life insurance provided.
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, and 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Performance-based bonuses and opportunities for career growth.
  • Supportive, collaborative work environment that values innovation and leadership.
