This position is with the Workers' Compensation Division (WCD). WCD administers, regulates, and enforces the laws and administrative rules governing the Oregon workers' compensation system.

Here's what you will do:
As a Claims Coding Specialist/Reception Backup, you will process injured worker claim reports according to U.S. Bureau of Labor & Statistics (BLS) guidelines and other agency business needs, accurately enter information into the Claims Information System (CIS) and update information as necessary. You will also provide assistance to the central reception position as necessary.

Here's what you need to qualify:
- Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents
- OR an associate degree in any field
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Requested skills:
- Prior work experience coding or working with North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes, Standard Occupational Code (SOC) or Occupational Injury and Illness Classification (OIIC) codes
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
- Experience gathering information from multiple sources
- Experience working with confidential information
- Prior workers' compensation experience is helpful
- Ability to organize work efficiently and to manage tasks with interruptions as well as manage a heavy workload with competing deadlines
- Experience answering multi-line phones
- Prior experience working as a receptionist

- Per the Pay Equity Law passed in 2017, a pay equity analysis will be conducted to determine what pay step the successful candidate will be offered. On average, candidates new to state service will most likely be offered compensation in the lower to mid-level of the salary range.
- The salary range listed is the non-PERS eligible rate. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible after 6 months of employment, the salary range will increase by 6.95% and the required 6% employee retirement contribution will be deducted from your pay.
