Job description

JOB TITLE : Imaging Clinical Coordinator

STATUS : Full-Time

TYPE : On Campus

REPORTS TO : Program Director

PURPOSE :

The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for coordinating clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the Smith Chason Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Director. The Clinical Coordinator must evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of the clinical affiliate / clinical education centers. The clinical coordinator's responsibilities must include coordination, instruction, and evaluation.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES :

  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree in a Health Science field preferred
  • Must possess a minimum of two years of full-time experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field. Full-time is defined as 35 hours per week.
  • Must possess a current Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential.
  • Must be willing to travel to clinical externship sites to meet with clinical instructors and students to review learning progress and competencies. A minimum of twice per quarter per student.
  • May be required to teach at any college location. Some in-state or out-of-state travel related to discipline specific training is required.
  • Must have course work in instructional methodologies, evaluation, and assessment. Must have proficiency in curriculum development.
  • Post-secondary level teaching experience
  • Credential(s) specific to one or more of the concentration(s) offered such as RDCS, RVT, and / or RMSKS preferred
  • Strong knowledge of ultrasound physics, instrumentation and application for DMS and vascular specialties.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Embrace the institutional goals of Smith Chason College by engaging students as full partners in the learning process, removing barriers for student progression in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, and supporting and assisting students in achieving their educational goals.
  • Use teaching methodology that incorporates Diagnostic Medical Sonography concepts in a dynamic instructional environment that promotes a positive and interactive learning experience for all students.
  • Provide students with adequate attention and instruction to acquire the knowledge needed to demonstrate Smith Chason College competency standards in accordance with the AIUM.org Practice Guidelines and Recommendations and to meet graduation requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the changes in the healthcare industry as it relates to Diagnostic Medical Sonography; assist the program director with the creation of new courses and modify existing courses when appropriate to keep current with new rules and regulations.
  • Actively participate in academic advising for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and collaborate with academic success coaches to offer resources to students.
  • Actively participate in advisory board, department, college or system meetings, and / or committees; participate in college-related activities such as recruitment of students into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program; and participate in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
  • Responsible for coordinating clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the program director.
  • Evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of the clinical affiliate / clinical education centers.
  • Assist the program director with establishing and maintaining relationships with representatives of the clinical sites in which students are placed.
  • Determine clinical placement and schedules students each quarter.
  • Communicate with clinical sites regarding plans for student placements (dates, student numbers, etc.).
  • Must be willing to travel to clinical externship sites to meet with clinical instructors and students to review learning progress and competencies. A minimum of twice per quarter per student.
  • Teaching per contract.
  • Assist the program director with the preparation of proficiency exams and establish a plan for administering all proficiency exams, as applicable.
  • Assist in maintaining department / curriculum equipment, supplies, and materials, and library and support resources.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and submit timely reports as required.
  • Keep the program director advised of all matters pertaining to the department.
  • Notify program director when planning to be off campus during normal working hours.
  • Maintain personal contact with business, industry, and professional agencies relevant to the department.
  • Obtain Canvas training and demonstrate competencies in instruction as determined.
  • Work the required 35 hours per week and post and hold the required five (5) office hours per week.
  • Complete the five-hour staff development requirement annually.
  • Submit records and forms in a timely fashion as required in the policy and procedures manual.
  • Actively participate in at least one professional organization. (SDMS, AIUM, ASRT, ASE, SVU)
  • Maintain current industry licensure and credentials, including earning annual CME / CEUs.
  • Be responsible for and perform other such duties as may be assigned.
