Job Title : Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
Duration : 10 Months -Part Time - 16 hrs / week (Wednesdays and Thursdays)
Location : Honolulu, HI 96813- REMOTE
Working Hours : Wednesday and Thursday 7 : 45a – 4 : 30p HST; with 45 min unpaid lunch from12p – 12 : 45p
Pay rate : $24-$28 / hour on (W2 without any benefits)
JOB DESCRIPTION :
The WIC Registered Dietitian Nutritionist’s primary job function is to be responsible for providing all nutrition and breastfeeding education for participants with diagnoses and / or conditions identified as high-risk (HR). RD may be assigned to assist with low-risk clients as needed.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES :
1. WIC Nutrition Services
a. Access Local Agency HR log and / or HR Report to contact caregivers / clients in need of consultation.
b. Provide full nutrition assessment and risk factor assignment.
c. Provide nutrition counseling.
d. Develop and document in WIC database (HiWIC) individualized HR nutrition care plans in a FDAR (Focus / Data / Action / Response) format that includes goals with time frames, appropriate interventions, appropriate nutrition education materials, and plan for follow up.
e. Refer to other health and social service programs and agencies.
f. Review and approve WIC Medical Documentation forms (WIC Form FD 941C) for non-contract exempt infant formulas and medical foods.
g. Assign and tailor food packages in HiWIC.
h. Counsel on breastfeeding support and education.
2. Quality Improvement
a. Complete a Hawaii WIC Services Branch training on use of HiWIC, Participant Centered Education, Value Enhanced Nutrition Education, and HR Policy and Procedures on assessment and documentation.
b. Complete WIC annual Civil Rights training and other required trainings, as assigned.
3. Attendance
a. Responsible for regular, predictable attendance and to work hours as scheduled.
b. Ensures attendance and hours worked are accurately recorded.
c. Complete Daily Activity Tracking report in HiWIC.
PROFESSIONAL & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE :
1. Minimum Qualification Requirements :
a. Required
i. Education : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Food and Nutritional Science, Community Nutrition, or Clinical and Community Dietetics.
ii. Professional Registration : Registered by the Commission on Dietetics Registration for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Proof of RD Certificate.
iii. Knowledge : Has knowledge of nutritional needs of pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children under the age of five years and able to provide breastfeeding support and education.
b. Preferred
i. Experience : Prefer minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian / Nutritionist serving underserved maternal, child, health population.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
1. Ability to use Microsoft Office Programs : Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, etc.
2. Basic computer skills.
3. Able to type 45 wpm.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
1. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with staff and clients.
2. Culturally competent and ability to work with staff and clients with a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
3. Ability to counsel clients individually as well as conduct group nutrition and breastfeeding education classes as assigned.
4. Ability to counsel non-English speaking clients utilizing State provided phone interpretation services.
5. Job duties require employee to provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers and have a commitment to serving those in need.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Work is preferably performed in-person within the clinic or in an office environment remotely that is recorded.
2. Follow Remote Work Guidance.
3. Must be available between 7 : 45 am – 4 : 30 pm Hawaii Standard Time.
4. Work requires use of a PC to access WIC MIS. All documentation must be performed within the MIS.
