Job description

Director of Clinical Practice

The Director of Clinical Practice provides strategic leadership and oversight for the development, implementation, and advancement of OCHN's clinical best practices and healthcare integration initiatives. This role is responsible for leading clinical operations, promoting evidence-based practices, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centered services across the organization.

The Director provides clinical leadership, supervision, and support to key clinical teams, including the Manager of Integrated Healthcare, Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants (Infant Mental Health Program), and the Assessment Center Team, including Diagnosticians, Autism Specialists, and reception staff.

This position spearheads clinical quality improvement efforts, service development, workforce capacity building, and compliance with contractual, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. The Director works collaboratively with organizational departments to assess clinical trends and provide clinical leadership in program development, implementation, and strategic planning. These efforts support the delivery of high-quality, efficient services and contribute to improved outcomes for the individuals served.

Through strategic planning, cross-functional collaboration, and clinical leadership, the Director ensures alignment of clinical practices with organizational priorities, industry standards, and emerging healthcare trends.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead clinical best practices, healthcare integration, and utilization management initiatives to support organizational and contract objectives.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical policies, protocols, practice guidelines, and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and performance management for assigned clinical leaders and staff.
  • Lead and represent OCHN in healthcare integration initiatives, committees, workgroups, and collaborative partnerships.
  • Negotiate, manage, and monitor clinical and integrated healthcare contracts, grants, and related funding.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support training, workforce development, and practice improvement efforts.
  • Evaluate provider performance, monitor contract compliance, and recommend corrective actions or recognition based on outcomes and quality measures.
  • Analyze clinical, quality, and utilization data to identify trends, improve performance, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Co-lead sentinel event reviews and provide clinical expertise to credentialing, quality, and compliance activities.
  • Resolve provider and system-level issues, including complaints, disputes, appeals, and performance concerns.
  • Collaborate across departments and external partners on local, state, and federal initiatives impacting service delivery.
  • Develop and monitor departmental budgets and grant expenditures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's degree or higher in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling

Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):

  • State of Michigan licensure as Psychologist (LLP), Social Worker (LMSW), Counselor (LPC).

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant clinical experience
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a managerial or supervisory position in the public or private sector are preferred.
  • Departmental leadership or director experience required.

Experience Preferred:

  • PIHP/CMHSP
  • Medicaid managed care
  • Behavioral health administration
  • Integrated physical/behavioral healthcare
  • NCQA / CARF

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Michigan Mental Health Code
  • Understanding Medicaid rules and regulations.
  • Michigan Provider Manual
  • Community Mental Health service delivery system.
  • Knowledge of Integrated Healthcare practices
  • Working knowledge of PIHP and CMHSP
  • Title 42 of the Code of Federal Regulations

Additional Information:

  • Must have available means of transportation to and from OCHN and for required offsite meetings or site visits.
  • Must be available for meetings and events which may occur outside of standard office hours.
