Job Summary
We are recruiting a full-time clinical research coordinator (CRC) to help us with our lab's in-human and small-animal neuroscience studies. The ideal candidate is a recent college graduate with a bachelor's degree in biology, neuroscience, psychology, engineering, or equivalent who is planning to attend an MD-PhD or PhD program in neuroscience, bioengineering, or related field. At least 50% of the coordinator's time will be spent performing experiments with state-of-the-art human and preclinical neuroscience technologies, so a desire for in-depth, hands-on research experience is a necessity. Proficiency in MATLAB or Python is a significant plus, as is previous coursework / enduring interest in neuroscience, biology, and / or bio-engineering. The ideal candidate would be willing to accept the position for 2 years, although a shorter time frame may be an option. This position is directly supervised by Dr. Ryan Ash MD, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Psychiatry department with enduring interests in neuroplasticity, noninvasive neuromodulation, neuropsychiatric disorders including autism and disorders of posttraumatic stress, mindfulness practices, and neuromodulation-based therapies. Our lab is at the forefront of advancing novel transcranial focused ultrasound, the first technique that has the promise to noninvasively modulate neural activity in the deep brain areas most relevant to neuropsychiatric disease. We utilize electroencephalography, focused ultrasound, psychophysical task paradigms, and novel neuroimaging approaches in our studies. As a member of our research group, you will get extensive hands-on expertise with these techniques (EEG, TUS, neuroimaging, neurobehavioral paradigms), will become expert in designing and running in-human neuroscience experiments and likely get experience in translational small animal studies, and will get to work closely with PhD and MD, PhD neuroscience researchers. This position will provide valuable experience in both clinical and basic research, as well as clinical exposure. This is an ideal training position for anyone who is planning to pursue an MD-PhD or PhD. Previous candidates have matriculated to highly competitive graduate and medical school positions.
Duties include :
- Serve as primary contact with research participants. Coordinate studies from startup through close-out.
- Collect and manage patient and laboratory data for in-human and small animal neuroscience research projects.
- Interact with the principal investigator regularly, ensuring patient safety and excellence in research techniques.
- Participate in basic data analysis and figure preparation for conferences, talks, and manuscripts.
- Present / discuss research results in lab meetings, departmental colloquia, and research conferences.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $34.32 - $55.19 (Hourly Rate).
