Cloud Operations Manager

We are seeking a Cloud Operations Manager to lead and contribute hands-on to our team supporting AWS GovCloud environments and business-critical applications. This full-time role combines day-to-day technical ownership with people leadership for a team of 4 engineers. The manager will be responsible for cloud operations, server administration, incident resolution, change management, problem management, patching, monitoring, and security compliance in a regulated environment, while setting priorities, coaching team members, and driving operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on AWS experience, proficiency in Windows and/or Linux server administration, and the ability to independently own a portfolio of work and projects from defining the approach through execution, while collaborating with internal and vendor teams to maintain reliable operations and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of 4 cloud operations engineers, including work allocation, coaching, development and performance management.
  • Participate in a rotating weekly on-call schedule.
  • Support audit activities by gathering findings and creating and providing documentation in accordance with audit requirements.
  • Independently own a portfolio of work and projects, from defining the approach through execution.
  • Identify, propose and implement cost-optimization improvements.
  • Identify and implement operational improvements, including automation and process refinement where appropriate.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all configurations and procedures, and ensure the team follows documentation standards.
  • Work with cross-functional teams and vendor teams to coordinate fixes, maintenance and escalations.
  • Maintain compliance with security and operational standards, including administrative account control, patch status, services and logging.
  • Support incident management, root cause analysis and problem resolution within SLA expectations.
  • Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure issues involving compute, storage, networking, DNS, IAM and application connectivity.
  • Perform and oversee patching, upgrades, maintenance and routine operational tasks through approved change management processes.
  • Monitor the health, performance and utilization of the AWS GovCloud environments, respond to alerts and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Set team priorities and coordinate operational workload across incidents, service requests, maintenance activities and project work.
  • Remain hands-on in supporting the deployment, configuration and management of AWS GovCloud infrastructure (compute, storage, networking, etc.).

Required Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience supporting AWS environments.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on routine tasks and projects.
  • Strong problem-solving and the ability to learn quickly.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues across infrastructure and application layers.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance controls in a regulated environment.
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical delivery with people leadership, prioritization and team support.
  • Experience leading or managing a small technical operations or infrastructure team.
  • Solid understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure concepts, including compute, storage, networking, security groups, DNS and IAM.
  • Proficiency in Windows and/or Linux server administration.
  • Must be a US citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting regulated, government, or highly controlled cloud environments.
  • Previous experience mentoring, coaching and developing engineers.
  • Previous experience working on a geographically dispersed team.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve operational stability, efficiency and resilience over time.
  • Experience in FEDRAMP/GovRamp.
  • Experience using AI tools to enhance productivity and support scripting, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Experience using Agile tools to plan, track, and manage operational work.
  • Experience with ITIL-based incident, change, and problem management processes.
  • AWS certification or equivalent cloud credentials.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch and basic log analysis.
  • Scripting or automation experience.
  • Previous audit experience, including gathering findings and creating and providing documentation in accordance with audit requirements.

Why join our team:

  • We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
  • Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
  • We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients, and communities.
