CPS, is seeking the specific expertise of a Data Architect to support the projects under the ELC grant.

This is a full-time remote (9 am - 5 pm, M - F, CST) position. This engagement has the potential to be extended, based on priorities and resources within the District.

The rate is classified as Category C : Data Architect - not to exceed $118 p / h . All rates will be negotiate

Objectives : Under the direction of the Data Solutions Manager and in connection with the ELC Program team, the Data Architect will ensure the ELC Program’s data architecture is organized, accessible, secure, and meets the needs of the program and associated business units. This role is responsible for designing warehouses and databases, and defining how data is collected and organized.

Desired outcomes :  We are seeking successful completion of data architecture solutions for the projects under the ELC grant program. This includes successful completion of Projects : 1295, 1714, 1723, 1715, 1716, and other projects as they arise. We are also looking for data architecture input leading to successful implementation of a Master Data Management solution for student data.

CPS is currently supporting a grant project focused on improving health information exchange between the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Chicago Public Schools : The Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Program. The three major goals of the grant are as follows :

A. Management and sharing of communicable disease data between Chicago Public Schools and the Local Health Department

B. Improvement of data quality (business processes, governance, systems / applications,

C. Efficiency of public health response to disease outbreaks for Chicago Public School students

Job Summary : Under the direction of the Data Solutions Manager and in connection with the ELC Program team, the Data Architect will ensure the ELC Program’s data architecture is organized, accessible, secure, and meets the needs of the program and associated business units. This role is responsible for designing warehouses and databases, and defining how data is collected and organized.

The Data Architect will be held accountable for the following responsibilities :

• Define and implement the long-term technology strategy and innovations roadmaps across analytics, data engineering, and data platforms
• Create standards, design patterns, and best practices for ETL development in an enterprise data warehouse environment.
• Oversee the expansion of existing data architecture and data query performance optimization.
• Assist with identifying future state architecture (data fabric, active metadata, Data Lake, Data Lakehouse).
• Perform current state data model assessments / target data models and gap analysis. Propose new database architecture and support data migration from an existing Legacy system to a new structure
• Create source-to-target mapping documents to transform the source data into the target warehouse and test final transformations.
• Maintain and create extensions to ODS.
• Assist in designing the data warehouse and ensure that data is stored and maintained in consistent formats.
• Counsel with Analysts and Subject Matter Experts on specific topics in order to accurately capture existing business rules / principles.
• Establish data modeling naming standards, abbreviations, guidelines, and best practices.
• Develop and maintain conceptual, physical, and logical data models.
• Drive best practice solutions for data in a collaborative environment.
• Provide insight and strategies for data architecture solutions.
• Coordinate with a Solutions Architect to find the best data solution and workflows to support projects.
• Lead architectural design and strategy discussions.
• Familiarity with various ETL tools including MS SSIS and Ab Initio.
• Familiarity with ETL transformations between data stored in MS SQL Server Management Studio, Azure SQL Database, Oracle databases and ServiceNow.
• Experience with scripting languages, Bash, PowerShell, Google Script and some C# and Python.
• Familiarity with AppWorx workload automation
• Extensive work with data profiling.
• Extensive work with data modeling both dimensional and non-dimensional data in 3NF.
• Experience in conceptual, logical, physical data modeling
• Stay current with the latest technologies and trends.
