The Mainframe Systems Programmer is a technical specialist working with other highly trained professionals to support the mainframe computing environment. The incumbent will provide support to the staff that share primary responsibility for State Fund's z / OS, z / VM, its modifications, customizations, and related functions.

As the Mainframe Systems Programmer, you will :

• Install, configure and maintain the z / OS operating systems and IBM / ISV software
• Assist Operations staff in the isolation and correction of the most complex hardware and / or software issues with system restarts after failures
• Design, code, test, and install the most complex operating system enhancements, including both local modifications and changes provided by software vendors
• Provide on-going system administration support
• Debug problems to maintain systems and software

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract.
